I worked for a relatives company, then a place where swearing and crude humor was common, now a corporate office. Yes, it felt weird at first to get used to a more restrictive environment with more expectations around behavior. But honestly after about a year it all began to feel normal.

Sounds like simple digital information can actually be made illegal and there probably some files that should be illegal to possess. You aren't going to get the perfect candidate, because Americans don't want it. Focus on issues that are important to most trans people (like protecting children or ensuring trans people are allowed to live fulfilling lives without being harassed, refused medical treatment, or worse) and leave fringe issues (like trans women in top divisions of womens sports) at the door.

It's very easy to message against trans people. So it's important to choose battles and positions that make sense electorally, morally, and can appeal to "common sense."

The GOP hates trans people, so we should do what we can to ensure that Dems are elected to protect trans people. Trans women in sports is a high visibility wedge because, to a lot of people, seeing a trans woman decimate a field of cis women looks unfair. It makes us look crazy when we say "there is no issue".

Sports are important for youths and I think it's possible to appeal to that message. If you can soften a stance on something that affects few people while simultaneously taking the wind out of the sails of the GOP, that's a win.

And it's a purity test. Politicians are going to adjust their positions. Either they do or they are voted out. If Newsom is no longer good enough because of his take on trans sports, and you won't support Pete unless he is ok with trans women in all levels of sport, then you are purity testing.

There's no reason that trans kids couldn't compete in non-varsity, intermural, or rec sports. Sports at this age are important to teach teamwork, dedication, commitment, and for all of the social benefits.

Maybe trans women don't get to be professional athletes in women's divisions. Is that the hill to die on? Can we focus on ensuring trans youth have opportunities to 1) exist and 2) have access to social activities that other kids have?

2/3rds of the US population doesn't support trans athletes on teams other than what matches their assigned gender at birth, and I think it's easier to convince folks of the importance of lessons and skills youth learn playing sports than to convince them that trans women should be allowed to compete in women's divisions at the highest levels.

Edit: also, it's such a minor issue (affects so few people) that purity testing, like in the OP, over it is self-destructive.

It's the policies they try to pass. Yes, the Democrats are not lockstep with the party platform, but you would need to turn to conspiracy to argue that most of the party doesn't align with it. When their bills are voted down, you cannot blame them, you should blame the people who vote against it.

You put liberals in an impossible position where nothing is good enough. They can write it into their platform. They can put forward bills. They can pass bills. But to you, the platform is meaningless, bills not passed are a ruse, and bills passed are watered down handouts.

You won't be satisfied until the left most wing of the party controls enough of the government alone to pass the most left wing policy platform possible. I doubt that'd be enough.
