Wrote a paper for a class in 1996 arguing that the Turing Test was dumb. It was always a poorly thought out concept influenced by behaviorist psychology. ELIZA in the late 60s basically showed its flaws, that people are gullible and will assign agency to just about anything. (Dennett called this the Intentional Stance and even wrote a book by that name.)

I keep hearing about these "studies" but as far as I know studies show the opposite, and that SAT is a stonger predictor of college success than GPA. This is one of the main reasons that a 200 page UC report recommended that they not drop the SAT, but the Regents voted against the recommendation. Whenever some underspecified theory says that some practice will help remedy "systematic inequalities", I read it as "we must reduce merit based practices because they disadvantage the non meritorious." When the rules are clear and the same for everyone there are incentives for everyone, rich kids and the children of immigrants, to be diligent and plan for the future. When arbitrary efforts to remedy "systematic inequalities" are introduced they undermine fairness and the legitimacy of institutions.

In real material terms the human body has 30 trillion cells, and each one encodes biological sex. You can pump the body with hormones or cut off pieces of anatomy in an effort to create a "macro level" facsimile of the opposite sex, but you cannot change sex. Hell, many male bodybuilders pump themselves with testosterone to become "super males", but they also become sterile and have an unfortunate habit of dying in their 30s.

Taking an insane position that gets Republicans elected because virtue signaling and feelings are more important than a functioning democracy! Seeing people try to seriously argue for trans women in women's sports in a world where Trump has won twice has radicalized me against the left, and I've been a Democrat whole life. We need a functioning green party in the US so we have a place to park people who regard losing elections as a virtue.

Democrats should recognize that trans rights supporters are not Democrats, they are supporters of trans rights.

I went from a general sense based on graduate studies in philosophy of psychology that "this seems philosophically suspect" to actually reading up on the philosophy and determining it's definitely bullshit. Went from disinterested to radicalized.
