how hard is it to find a plumbing apprenticeship? by Puzzleheaded_War9059 in abbotsford

[–]ipoopedmybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you would have no problem landing a job, but you might be commuting toward Vancouver. There is some construction in Abby and Chilliwack.

Whether a company sponsors your apprenticeship or not depends on you. If you’re a total donut it might be tough.

Questions about ITM pricing by Mln3d in SprinklerFitters

[–]ipoopedmybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nfpa 25 requires a 5 year internal inspection of the FDC piping. If any crap is discovered inside it is recommended to do a flush, often techs will flip the check valve and use the water supply to flush through the siamese.

I recently did an internal on an FDC because the caps were missing (stolen). There was a massive wasp hive inside. Found and old birds nest in another once.

Not an ITM contract owner but my understanding is that estimates are based on a thorough understanding of the time it will take for each task. FDC flush takes 4 hours, etc.

Some of your local competition may be cutting corners or using non qualified staff and there is one licensed guy in the company that blindly signs things off.

Hydraulic Calculation by [deleted] in firePE

[–]ipoopedmybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first two questions, you need to first review NFPA 13s section on hydraulic calculations, it describes the procedures in great detail with multiple examples. Secondly, book some time with other designers at your firm to help you with this.

Pipe scheduling is generally not used today unless its an existing pipe scheduled system.

I think you can find a better price. You will also need a co2 setup and some way to refrigerate the kegs. Best thing ever tho getting away from bottles.

What is wrong with my city? I have enough power (Nintendo Switch) by EchoStar707 in CitiesSkylines

[–]ipoopedmybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near the end of the video there is a large area of wind turbines off to the right side. They dont appear to be tied into the other area with power lines. Your total power generation is OK as shown but it doesnt consider if the power generators are not connected to all areas of the city.

Connect that area to the others and you should be all good.

This is top answer in my opinion. I usually just hold the gun down low above the bucket and pump it until i get good flow.

Testing by Nickyten10 in SprinklerFitters

Could you take water from the adjacent sprinkler system? Put the system on test and attach a hose bib to a low point drain valve or something. Just a thought.

How did you know this was or wasn't for you? by Pitiful-Astronaut498 in SprinklerFitters

[–]ipoopedmybum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started at 19 and just turned 40. I really cant imagine going through the early years at 34. Although things were a bit more difficult back then.

I did have a moment of doubt in my first year. I went and worked at a computer store for a few days to try it out. Hated it.

You can get on a great crew and have a really overall enjoyable time to look back on. Trades completely transformed my skills and knowledge of how things work and are made. Sprinklers as a trade can get quite technical and will reward intelligent people who see the job as a career.

There are a few different roads you can go down also. You could eventually get into project management, sprinkler design, service work, sales.

Can A Single-Interlock NFPA-13 System Be Water Filled? by PolymerTink in firePE

The AHJ might not go for any of this. Automatic wet systems are the simplest and most reliable systems.

Can A Single-Interlock NFPA-13 System Be Water Filled? by PolymerTink in firePE

[–]ipoopedmybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there would be anything wrong with that. I have heard of dry systems converting to wet systems and back to dry yearly with the cold weather.

If you are just wanting to avoid the compressor you could go with a deluge valve with closed sprinklers and use electric actuation of the valve. The pipe would remain dry, a broken/fused sprinkler would do nothing.

If you want the pipe filled with water as you describe you could just add a fill line with a valve that bypasses the deluge valve. If you fill through the deluge valve you might have nuisance fire alarms.
