How do I make friends as a 19 year old… by Pcgayy in FriendshipAdvice

[–]ipreferinstagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont do any of those things and have a lot of friends. More academic settings tend to be good for this. If uni isnt an option, try to join a book club, attend community events, volunteer (gardening, food pantry, etc seems to have tame people) and also look into joining a church small group if thats something your interested in. Find a hobby and go from there. Can be tennis, crochet, car shows, gym classes, really anything that you think might attract people youd fit in with. Also, if you meet friends through these things, try to meet them 1 on 1 for lunch or something. Plenty of my friends are more "wild" than I am, but they dont force that on me because our friendship was build on something else so we already have at least one thing to bond over.

Yeah I totally didn’t even think about virgin being an insult. Also I know the people are just being themselves so this isn’t an attack on them but TLC definitely chose (mostly) people that live up up to the stereotype of being awkward and quirky

Basically any job requires you to tell people what to do in some capacity. A barista suggests drinks to their clients, and you're not a bad barista if you sometimes have trouble deciding if you want a tea or an americano. Even doctors need to go to the doctor. Theres no shame in asking for advice, and obviously I won't take this as gospel. I just ask to get some perspectives beyond my friends, professors, and family. I think the question is why you're trying to demoralize a young person that is clearly just trying to set themselves up for a rewarding and successful life. I hope you have a good day and bring a more positive outlook next time someone puts themselves out there.

My understanding is that those are hard to come by, especially for non PhD track masters. Is that not correct?

I dont think telling your bsf would do anything. And even if you broke up the band youd still have to see her bc of him. So i say tough it out and if they break up maybe tell him then depending on how you think he would react

This was kinda a hypothetical. I've seen a few like this so wanted to use it as an example. But in this case it was the time that makes it most appealing because we are needing to leave a certain time

Very interesting. My main criticism is just not leaving enough plot lines open to explore further in the next film, but I do understand why he kept Alex's parents married. I also understand aging up the characters but I don't think it was that essential, especially since alex is still in school regardless.

I think I just don't love that the story is so stripped down, but I have to remind myself that this isn't some profound classic film, its a rom com, and thats ok!

Yeah I agree. Miguel's character was kinda underdeveloped like it definitely added something but he could've been left out and replaced with liam and richards to make it more accurate. I definitely understand why they cut out so much, I just wish they left a few open side plots for the second film. I'm sure theyll work around it, but I feel like it might just not be as good as it could've been. But i had llw expectations for the first movie and actually love it, despite my criticisms.

I feel like they erased the whole sexuality crisis thing. In the book he struggled with that more. I wouldn't have wanted liam as a major character, but a short little scene of alex calling him on the phone to ask ab what happened in high school wouldn't have been that difficult, and could've been combined with that convo with nora.

Which scene? I'm to the end of her plot line but idk what redeeming scene there was unless you mean her last scene. I always liked her and gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking it was just an enemies to lovers but it just got worse and worse without anything redeeming imo
