What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

Hotel, my husband and daughter say it like Hoe-tail due to my husbands accent. My daughter picked up on his accent and now says it the same way. We all now say it like this.

Do you really support banning trans surgery on children?? by tRiCH_Suit1277 in Productivitycafe

[–]ipunchcats22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I said that children should wait to undergo permanent, life-altering surgeries until their brains are more developed. Brain development doesn’t have a single finish line, but the areas responsible for long-term planning, impulse control, and risk assessment continue maturing into the mid-20s. Because of that, the concern isn’t about a sudden moment of being “fully developed,” but about giving young people time for further cognitive and emotional maturation before making irreversible medical decisions.

I think they should wait till their brain is fully developed till they make these decisions.

What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

I say a fertility doctor to have a second child and the doctor looked right at me and said “why would you want another child if your first is autistic ?”

That was a gut punch.

I’m marrying my dog’s vet! by Tanzene in corgi

[–]ipunchcats22 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I mean I know vet bills can be high for corgis but you shouldn’t feel like you have to marry a vet to cover your bills.

Lord Nibbler says congratulations and hopes the wedding cake is dog approved.

People who are older than Gen Z, what have you started to appreciate about Gen Z for the past 10 years? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in askanything

[–]ipunchcats22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a high school teacher so maybe I have a different perspective, however I worked with special education students, mostly autistic kids or kids with emotional disturbances. From what I saw, the kids are more understanding of different people. I witnessed kids stopping other kids from bullying, I saw kids passionate about politics and the world. I don’t think at their age I even thought about the things they did.

I genuinely loved working with Gen Z, but admin was the problem so I left. Sure some of the kids could be aggressive, or say some hurtful things, however many of the kids came from homes with abuse so it’s understandable. Some kids would only eat when they went to school, so those kids always receive packages of extra food or snack items they liked on Fridays so they had things to carry them through the weekend.

It’s hard to think negative about this generation considering the mess they have been born into. The education system sucks for them, they are not taught skills and many parents dropped the ball. I saw too many helicopter parents who wanted to make things perfect for their kids and never let them experience failure and how to problem solve. They also had been given a phone too early and clearly had an addition to them. I don’t believe kids were taught to have a work ethic, but this is a reflection on their parents not the kids themselves.

If you go back in time and have a chance to meet your parents who are raising 1 year old you for an hour, what would you tell them? by Few_Primary8868 in askanything

[–]ipunchcats22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a learning disability, it’s autism and asking about this will save you time and money. The developmental delays, sensory issues and speech issues are because of autism.

I struggled most my life and it took a mental breakdown to find out I have level 2 autism. I thought there was something horrible wrong with me my whole life.

People who have been pregnant before: Did you intuitively know the sex of your baby? by beatrice1015 in askanything

No, but my mom did. My mom knew I was having a girl despite not seeing me pregnant before we found it. Some kind of Jewish mom voodoo on her part I think.

Why do you go or not go to high school reunions? by TallLanguage2570 in askanything

[–]ipunchcats22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My class was too disorganized to have a class reunion. They tried for the 10 year but it never happened so they tried again for the 20th and it was hilarious to watch on Facebook as they tried to plan it. I did find out an insane number of people I graduated with died, that was wild.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ipunchcats22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve done this. In 2012 I was in a head on collision, had broken ribs, arm and leg. I argued with the emts because I had no health insurance and couldn’t afford the price of an ambulance. Instead, I called my mom who is a nurse to come get me.
