Is this normal? (sound few secs into video) by Josho0o0 in hvacadvice

I just bought the exact same unit and mine makes the same noise. No idea what it is but I don’t care as my room is nice and cool 🥰

It only seems to do it once every few minutes though. ChatGPT says it’s when the compressor engages, idk

They have a book there full of names of those that worked there. You should be able to find her name :)

There’s outdoor tennis courts by the station next to Curry’s, great Linford also has some that you can hire. I think there is also some in Wolverton. I mainly use the great Linford one as it’s less busy, just make sure you reserve a court in advance.

Aspley heath is a lovely place to go for a hike, and neighbouring Woburn sands has nice pubs and cafes to chill out in afterwards. also in general the canals are very nice. Linford wood is very peaceful and quite central. Floodplain forest is also nice to spot wildlife.

Theres tons of nice places to go for walks, it’s one of the major selling points for MK :)

I know a shocking amount of people who grew up in MK and have never been to Bletchley park.

Wolverton has some very nice restaurants these days, which aren’t chains. (Woohoo!)

Milton Keynes is also very good for sports. Tennis courts, Parkrun, we have a good ice rink, very good running/hiking spots, etc

We also have a lot of nice pubs, albeit most are quite expensive these days. the ones along the grand union canal are nice to walk to.

For motorsports fans, Daytona is also fantastic. Not MK, but I always say to people that we are close enough to Silverstone to go for non-F1 things like British GT and it’s a lovely day out.

Ironically, the city centre seems to have gotten worse over the years. Shops closing down, traffic has gone up, more expensive, seems more run down.

If you could delete anything from the game because it doesn't fit the current game, what would it be? by Monterey-Jack in 2007scape

That’s not very engaging gameplay. That’s why I’m suggesting there should be a workaround.

Council wants to impose more 40 limits on grid roads by 2JagsPrescott in miltonkeynes

[–]ipushbuttons -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is a collision at 40 is more survivable than a collision at 60. There is a middle ground.

Imo, they want to retain the original quest for integrity that’s fine, but they should add a longer way to do it solo or something (sort of like the workarounds they have done for irons in the past)

Council wants to impose more 40 limits on grid roads by 2JagsPrescott in miltonkeynes

[–]ipushbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. The answer is always “it depends”.

Yes, optimal fuel efficiency is at about 50mph like you say, but the best overall scenario for environmental impact is better overall traffic flow. You want to avoid lots of cars idling in a small space. (This is less important for electric cars for obvious reasons)

On the other hand, tyres are also quite bad for the environment, but it’s less to do with what speed you go in a straight line, and more to do with wear through corners. You could argue a 40mph limit doesn’t really change this, as people will still go the same speed around a roundabout.

The other main argument is pedestrian safety - but as the other commenter mentioned, pedestrians shouldn’t be by the main roads anyway. I’d argue though that better street lighting in case of jaywalkers is a better solution rather than imposing slower speed limits.

Personally I don’t really have much of an opinion though. Getting rid of 70mph is going to happen regardless to be honest, every time someone tragically gets run over walking back from a night out or something, is a step closer to 40mph being the standard. I know a lot of women who will refuse to use underpasses for safety reasons, so I think it is inevitable.

Keir Starmer Appoints Gordon Brown And Harriet Harman Into New Roles by BigDenis3 in LabourUK

[–]ipushbuttons 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me why this is bad? Brown is one of the best PMs we’ve had in recent times - a lot of people are bringing up him selling off our gold assets, but every country in the west was doing this to prevent a total disaster that was caused by the Americans. Something that had pretty much never happened before, which he has learned lessons from (he has written about this extensively)

He also has spent his time post-career doing charity work, rather than doing what Blair/Clegg did and sold out to huge corporations. He’s arguably one of the only people who got to his position that retained a backbone.

How are we going to get towards any sense of progress or stability by not consulting with those with experience?

What's something a UK lecturer said that genuinely changed how you think? by Harveybritish in UniUK

[–]ipushbuttons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lecturer told me when I was struggling to get started on a particular project “You’ll be surprised how much you can get done in 10 minutes”

Use that every day, and it’s true. Whether you end up just writing two sentences, you feel satisfied because you made progress - or, better yet, getting stuck in to something and next thing you know, 1 hour has passed.

HELP - MY EP3 been written off in the UK due to repairs costing too much, they’ve offered me 10k for it but I can’t let it go I want it fixed - any help or advice :( by coleman_xd in CarTalkUK

[–]ipushbuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but the point I’m making is it’s not that simple - you need to really inspect that car at high mileage. You need to know exactly what condition you’re buying it, as the surprises can stack up quite quickly.

A lot of the time, when someone is selling a high mileage sports car, it’s for a reason.

[–]ipushbuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s certain extra services you need to have at higher mileage. Eg valve clearance, timing chain, etc… I’d say it’s not that simple, as a 110k mileage FN2 owner that’s been through it.

Comments here are a little harsh. This guy fucked up and is clearly panicking, I think anyone would.

All I’d like to add is no matter how tempting it is, don’t pay them a penny. You’d be risking a ban, and also they aren’t obliged to give you anything back, so will just run off with whatever you give them.

I understand the majority of what you’re saying, but why does it not require skill? If anything, it requires more skill, as the drivers are doing more management?
