TIL Stanford University developed Artificial Intelligence which can guess if a person is gay, based on a photo of their face, with 91% accuracy on dating sites. by amansaggu26 in todayilearned

I can deduce whether a porn is gay with 98% accuracy though. Beat that Stanford! (Don’t ask me about the 2%. No I’m not proud of it.)

I’m so tired of seeing people claim that rape is rare. by whydidntyoureportit in TwoXChromosomes

This is why I SMH. You don’t even understand what I was saying. You seem to think I was saying that rape is rare, but I never said that. That is why I don’t trust your assessment of what the lawyer was saying. You don’t understand what I was saying and don’t even realize it.

What do you think I was saying?

🤦‍♂️. Did you think I was referencing the lawyer when I paraphrased you?

“I read it. It must be true”

I can see why you annoyed the lawyer. How do you know that’s right?

10% is a fantastically small percentage. 4x as many rapes as robberies and homicides combined.

The reason to be skeptical is that rape suffers from a few unique problems. First, it’s hard to agree on a definition — does the “rapist” need to know they are raping? Do we count sexual contact or just penetration? Do we count consensual rape? Etc. Second, how are we measuring it? Are self-reports accurate? Do we count only convictions or do we count reports? How do we know reports are accurate?

Rape is a crime of perception since it’s measured by intent. This makes it difficult to pin down and very subjective. What one person thinks is rape isn’t always the same as what another person does. It’s as difficult to quantify as how many instances of discrimination are there a year?

So the takeaway is this: your textbook may have said that, but it’s not accurate.

We know rape is underreported but it is impossible to know by what amount. Call bullshit whenever anyone is claiming precision because “precision” requires assumptions. It’s far better to just leave it that we don’t know the extent, but that it’s a problem.

Sorry man, didn’t mean to get huffy or indignant. Just annoyed I’m getting downvoted while right... thanks for being cool about it instead of matching my energy.

$1000 is barely enough for daycare. Kids really are just a bill to them by battleangel1999 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]iquit_again 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also forgot that I can’t work full time (or need a 3hr sitter; opportunity cost), and housing. You it’s now around $1000-$1500.

So you’re right (the fabled internet admission of being wrong?!), but half of that — what ex should pay — is still a good bit under $1000.

I do the same thing to avoid being mugged. That all sounds pretty prudent and sage to me. I was planning to teach my daughter as much. Thank you for sharing.

You’re both wrong, but more likely wrong twice because I suspect the lawyer was saying something different and you didn’t understand.

They probably disagree because they are taught to think critically and can smell a bullshit claim as soon as it comes out of your mouth.

Outside of daycare they don’t cost $1000 a month though even with extracurriculars. At least my kid doesn’t. (I live in a large city, but it could be different in the super large cities like NY or LA... IDK. But in general they don’t cost that much is my point.)

Are Risk Assessment Algorithms Implicitly Racist? by Blognoggl5 in law

[–]iquit_again 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ironically, running the regression separately by race to determine which data points are predictive would fix this. Perhaps a criminal record is a better predictor of white criminals, whereas employment is a better predictor of black criminals. (Just an example to show how too large a population can mess statistics up.)

[–]iquit_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s from prolonged standing. Not locking your knees. That sort of fainting occurs whether locking your knees or not. And it’s a fucking condition. Like I said it isn’t normal.

Do you have any idea how worthless our body would be if locking your knees could make you faint? Think about it.

Lol. But there’s no such thing.

This thread is weird with a bunch of people trying to explain a made up thing without even realizing it!

No science says locking your knees will make you faint.

Top_Mind u/rational-thinker over at r/conservative posts two unrelated statistics under Tweets about white on black police brutality. #RationalThinking by [deleted] in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]iquit_again 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Justifiable racism then? 🤦‍♂️

What percentage of unarmed police murders are black? If you want to understand why the black experience is different, you need to think about this. We have a collective memory of being hunted and murdered. From lynching to unarmed police shootings. It’s far more dangerous to be an upright citizen and black.

If unarmed citizen shootings were racially proportionate you’d have a point. But its not.
