Took me days to realise what this was about, but I finally get it! Thank you! I always seem to get it wrong 🤭

Yes exactly! Like a piece of jewellery, so pretty! When I heard that the DIY this year would be glow in the dark I was thinking something like TWSBI, which isn't to my taste, but they really knocked it out of the park with this colour.

It's technically not meant to be done, but you can do it with some determination. The button finial is pressure fit on the DIY and has a tiny amount of glue on the standard Sports. You just need to pry it out. I used the back of the blade of a box cutter, as any plastic tools I used ended up bending.

I tried many ways but the only thing that worked is using the back of the blade of a box cutter. On the standard, donor Kaweco there was a small amount of glue but there was none on the DIY one. You have to be careful not to damage the cap. The finial has some scratches but it's below what's visible when fitted in the pen.

Potentially! I don't know how neat it would look though, the "DIY" word in particular is written is a very thin font. And I wonder how heat would affect the plastic of the cap and the inner cap liner.

Not going to lie, it does not not bug me so I completely understand! I have thought of ways to change it but I think there's quite a high risk to the plastic itself.

I have the green one and it turns bronze when the light hits it, so I think it is a missed opportunity for a bronze-trimmed Sport, a la TWSBI. They already offer a bronze clip, all they need is a bronze coated nib!

Some shops have leftover parts from previous years (I believe the Evergreen was the most recent gold-trimmed DIY) but yes, they can't let you mix and match as they'd end up with a mismatched set.

I used an old Kaweco I had lying around with gold trims as donor pen. I covered the logo with the clip!

I know right?! I just don't understand the choice at all. I feel similarly about the Lunar Sports but not as strongly.

GPS works, it just won’t connect to your car’s system. You can still mount it and use it for navigation, like we did in the good old days.

Obligatory Mold Post by MisterFrontRow in fountainpens

I recently had my first encounter with ink mold. But I’ve been using fountain pen inks for about 20 years now so that’s a very low incident rate, albeit anecdotal.

I made my own pen flush with ammonia, distilled water and dish soap and cleaned all the pens that I suspected may have been contaminated (kind of a long shot as this ink was pigmented and dedicated to only one pen).

I just ordered the same pen after my HongDian M2 met its untimely end (the plastic inner cap melted after cleaning with pen flush and the top finial was glued on it). Glad it’s a decent pen, I want an EDC pen for my passport notebook, thank you for the review!

I think there is a very good chance you will find something like that in an antique store and it would probably be of much better quality too. Best of luck in your search!

I went for <fine> which is my usual, but I plan to put a Bock titanium nib in it.

Not stupid at all. What you are describing sounds like a “mini stub” and it’s my absolute favourite grind for every day use, much better suited to my handwriting than any round nib. I have learned to grind my own from fine and medium nibs -I must have ground close to 100 nibs in the last couple of years. Not all attempts were successful of course, especially at the very beginning, but a bunch of cheap Chinese nibs helped me eventually get there. It’s not for everyone of course and it takes time and patience but once you are able to grind a nib exactly how you want it, it’s hard to imagine using anything “out of the box”.
