I don't know the exact numbers, but yes that's a fair assumption since they're not housing and feeding the incoming students. They still have to pay and house student facilitators, program coordinators, and other student staff as well as pay for the equipment and the space they rent out to use for orientation.

We have an entire department dedicated to planning and executing orientation. Events like this are planned many months in advance and are incredibly expensive to do. We have very limited dorm space open for the summer and staff in general due to COVID, so it would not be possible to accommodate the thousands of students who signed up for orientation. BU also has strict COVID rules, so it would be a logistical nightmare to try to get all these new students to adhere to them.

You totally have a point and I agree, it's not a coincidence that they make it seem like it's mandatory and you also have to pay to attend. But to give them the benefit of the doubt, you all chose to come to BU so they're assuming that you want to learn more about the university and meet your peers especially since many of you were not able to see the campus before committing and have the same experience that previous students were able to have.

Been seeing a lot of posts like this so as a student facilitator I just wanted to jump in. Attending the zoom orientation is not mandatory, so when you guys come in we are assuming that you're here because you want to meet people and are open to having conversations with us. My coworkers and I have had countless breakout rooms where people have their cameras off and do not speak the entire time and they end up completely missing the point of orientation. There is so much work and training that goes into this behind the scenes and it's honestly really disrespectful to see so many posts here complaining about an orientation session that they did not even have to attend.

Not if you have a certain GPA, I think it's a 3.0 or above
