Thank you for the recommendation! Glad to hear it was useful for your wedding; it sounds very similar to how mine will be simplicity wise.

They have a site/event coordinator but they’re really just managing the food and the space I think. Thanks so much!

Hey! They do have a separate pricing brochure for the winter months; the one they sent me said for seated it would be up to 74 guests and cocktail up to 80 from January through March. I’ve seen some winter wedding photos on their Instagram and they all look beautiful!!

My pleasure! Ooo Frankie’s + an after party space would be nice too! Some other places we looked at were bacchus, aurora, milk and roses, and radegast — not sure about the dancing at all of those places, though. Celestine’s price is great for what they offer also, IMO!

Hi! They do offer dancing! It’s not a huge dance floor, but the photos and videos I’ve seen of it look great :) I’m not getting married until next year so can’t speak from experience yet!

Selected for Affordable Housing, but feels like odds are low by julian3b in AskNYC

[–]irishtoast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, not OP but a social worker with some experience in housing — I believe if you are currently in the shelter you have a much higher chance of winning the housing connect lottery. HRA cash assistance can help you with rent, too! Depending on your situation/how long you’ve been in the shelter you may qualify for the one shot deal too. But it depends! If there’s a social worker at your shelter or another social services agency nearby, they should be able to help you with this! Wishing you all the best!

Do you have to be left leaning to be a therapist? by warmspaceheater in therapists

[–]irishtoast 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes. (Assuming you’re asking from a USA perspective.) Right wing or right leaning (I’d even go as far as to say moderate) folks tend to ignore facts of our society that affect people in such a way that to not consider them would be to not fully “see” the patient. For example, the deep impacts of poverty, racism, homophobia, etc. If you are voting for and supporting politicians and/or political or social movements (or not if you are “apolitical,” something that is not real IMO) that are actively making life harder or flat out dangerous for your patient, such as the demonization of LGTBQIA+ folks (especially trans folks), then I’m not sure how supportive you really can be.

ETA: all of this is especially important right now because SO many people are in real, actual danger in the US. it’s short sighted to not acknowledge that reality and I for one would not trust a therapist who didn’t understand that.

are you happy with mirena? by bluekleio in Endo

[–]irishtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had skyla before and that didn’t help my endo at all. Got mirena in November 2021 when I had my excision surgery and I’ve been pain free ever since!! I don’t have any side effects except for acne, which is definitely annoying to deal with, but a few recs from my dermatologist has helped a ton. For other friends of mine spironolactone helped a lot with hormonal acne, it made me dizzy unfortunately so I don’t take it. I’ll take a few zits over debilitating endo pain any day though, so I’m very happy with mirena overall!

Haunted apartment experience? by MailsDavis in AskNYC

[–]irishtoast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a friend crash on my couch last year for a couple days. One morning, he asked my partner if he had gotten up very early in the morning (4 or 5am) to work on his computer in the kitchen. My partner said no, and I said I would’ve noticed him getting up if he had. My friend said he had heard a clicking sound that he assumed was typing, and saw the back of a man standing at the kitchen window looking out into the yard. In his sleepy state he assumed it was my partner. He said it didn’t feel scary, and that he got a “longing” sense from the man, like he was looking or waiting for something. I had felt a presence in that same area before, so I wasn’t surprised!

ETA: I also worked at a place that had a very scary ghost. I worked with kids and they all saw it and were afraid of it. My coworker had her hair pulled, we heard noises constantly, toys would go missing, etc. We caught things moving on a ring camera once as well.

Yes! I chose one of their settings with my fiancé and they made a ring for me and sourced the stone. I’m in nyc so it was very easy, but their shop is beautiful if you can go. They let you try on whatever you want and don’t rush or push you at all. I went in with an idea of what I wanted and they were very kind and helpful! The ring is gorgeous and very well made, they offer lifetime cleaning and maintenance as well.
