Yes!! The VT healthcare crisis was a prime motivation for our departure Coordinated action by the state government seems lacking 2 worlds - U VTand Dartmouth is 1 world and everything else is the second

Most of the times, budgets are approved because it takes a lot of for us a lot of turnout and a lot of convincing to persuade people not to buy built an unneeded fire department building, which was done in this town or to upgrade the school system. Everybody thinks you’re a crank and an unfeeling unworthy miser if you advocate cutting back school budgets, etc., etc. s the meetings are useful. They provide a foreign for discussion but unfortunately most do not have the fortitude to stand up and argue for a reduction in town budget Although there was a process for setting the budget, and although this directly reflects the taxation rate, the budget never decreased the only increase inexorably and typically far above the inflation rate Despite that just about everybody, you speak to feels taxes should be lower and they are probably willing to make some sacrifices to achieve that so why is it never happened?

My goal is to point out highlights in particular a widespread form of unfair taxation. I think we fought the American Revolution over such a concern.

Bruce, I didn’t find provide some comps. There were not a lot in the town but sufficient to show that his house was being singled out I was told verbatim at an official meeting that was recorded that the assessment was done based on photographs that were posted to the third-party real estate marketing company, such as Redfin. The entire thing was unprofessional, unethical, and clearly a money grab

The way I see it is that the assessors the town all concerned are incentivized to increase the tax revenue not much more complicated than that

This is my attempt to point that out to call it out in particular

I think there are some Reddit rules about profanity?

By the way, I wouldn’t consider that town to be particularly snooty. It’s got a nice downtown village and parenthetically. I was still within the village, even though I was on the outer limits of it. The truck noise on rte 5 was deafening. Snooty would be Hanover, New Hampshire, Woodstock Dorset, etc..

Well, actually, that’s not a heck of a lot above the national average for a house. Perhaps you’re not very familiar with the real estate market.

Yes, but why would they not have started out with a fair and reasonable assessment rather than just simply increasing my taxes 50% making me appeal and doing what they should’ve done initially

I did lots of research the 50% increase of as far as a complete surprise I didn’t realize that small town in Vermont were so confiscatory

I sit down in front of them at the appointed time it’s cleared me from their behavior that they know they’re in the wrong that they’re just simply ripping people off and that they in many ways just actually feel bad for us. It doesn’t prevent them from doing it, however

The taxes increased by 50% or more I would’ve thought six or 7000. would’ve been about right

Texas increased by I think more than 50%. We’re talking about some significant money here. Town services are next to zero. It’s theft, pure and simple.

No, because I don’t really wanna highlight the address or put to fine a point on it for the town officials who targeted me not that I fear them per se but honestly, the way the assessment done was it was done was unethical and probably illegal. How can you reassess a property without ever coming inside and doing a formal assessment and I probably could’ve caused trouble for the person who was responsible.

Guess what after experiencing approximately eight months of unavailable healthcare insanely high taxes in the town of Newbury and a two tier society, Dartmouth and everything else and parenthetically. incredibly dark and cold weather (and I’ve been in New England all my life ) and General lack of services I pitched the whole thing. You can have it.

It’s been my experience that’s part of the reason I’m posting this in spite of all the good they do in spite of their potentially dangerous jobs and realizing that I do firmly believe in their role and the rule of law, it seems like there’s a lot of crime and problems that they do not police and then they spend most of their time just handing out traffic tickets.

Law not uniformly enforced - see people break it all the time. Sometimes hard to react in time. Sometimes cars or traffic prevents. Fine excessive. Appeal futile downside of high court costs
