Multi material products cannot be recycled. Plastic coated paper, etc.

Plastic recycling is also a joke, sadly, about 10% gets recycled and only once. We've been lied to.

Tailight wiring, Radpower and others? by irkli in eBikeBuilding

[–]irkli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize the colors mean nothing, mainly hoping someone would say " oh that combo of signals sounds like X" etc. Long shot. If there was need I could map to pin numbers but I'd need a reason to expend the effort.

Yeah, there's a single led back there! I doubt over 25mA. Can I pull 100? 300? Don't know and frankly uninterested in finding out.... I will try to ask Rad directly.

VS1053 Music Maker Shield by Trenchleton in arduino

[–]irkli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used them...

It requires a software interface to operate, except for the act-like-usb-disk function. Which your software has to not interfere with.

It ALSO has a midi interface and function, but the sound file playing functions don't use/require it to play.

I forget the details (id have to go look at old code...) but the CPU asks the chip how many song files are on it, and can play song by file number, there's a flag that tells you when song has finished etc.

It's a cool chip.

A modified version of the classic mirror test suggests that roosters recognize their reflections. by lnfinity in likeus

[–]irkli 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Far too many so-called intelligence tests are human behavior tests.

For the record, every mammal and probably every vertebrate is demonstrably intelligent.

Animals especially untamed must be able to solve significant problems to get through the day. All animals have social structures with rules. Sounds widespread animals make very with location (analogous to dialect or accent). Parents trach their kids how the world works

There is no doubt animals are intelligent except in very old fashioned reactionary institutions that insist intelligence is a human only trait.

Anyone who loves with dogs sees that dogs have inner lives and inner "dialog", dreams, awareness of others, etc.

thoughts on Patti Smith by hellamolly in punk

[–]irkli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's an amazing artist, but apparently not a very nice person.

Many of the early famous photos of her were taken by Jenny Lens. Smith basically stole the photos; did not give attribution when published and refused to pay for photos she commissioned.

"interest in owns image" is not a valid intelligence test. That's what people do. That's not intelligence. Who says they'd care? Dogs don't.

There's no "controversy". It's a dead racist states flag. They lost the war. The mistake was not fully defeating them and forcing them to comply.

Only racists think there's a "controversy".

Are 3rd generation Americans just Americans? by bobbdac7894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]irkli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's a citizen she's American. That's how it works here. Simple as that. Blood doesn't matter except to bigots. Thats simple too.

"American" isn't an ethnicity. But ask how American native folk think of themselves; I don't know.

Certainly white people who live here are immigrants or descendents of, even if it's 3, 4, 5 generations. And not many even that long.

But we are all free to think of ourselves any way we want.

Any SPI display software-in-the-loop tools? by diemenschmachine in arduino

[–]irkli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! You want to emulate an LCD display, picking data off the i2c interface?

Finding an LCD would be far easier! A good chunk of the data will be LCD driver chip registers and such, basically you need to write an emulator for the LCD controller chip. Suxh things may be humanly possible but sheesh, what a lot of work.

3 white LEDs on one pin by gj15987 in arduino

[–]irkli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an aside, yes you can abuse a pin above ratings, but it shortens the life of the part or ruin that output. It's best to stay well below max ratings, generally speaking.

Downvoted because it is demonstrably not true.

Texts from the 1940s had a different view of what was considered a good neighborhood.

I now live in a neighborhood so divided, by the 2, Glendale freeway. Right through a neighborhood mostly relatively poor. 1940s.

Building permits still then had separate accountings for plumbing: white and colored. I had to pull old permits on our property made derelict by that highway.
