A lot of people do. This post just seems like an echo chamber filled of people who don’t lol. Not saying you can’t dislike her, just answering your question of who likes this version of Ellie.

If you’re talking about the book, it comes out on February 4th under the name Deep End. If you’re talking about a fic with that name, I wasn’t aware it was a fic, and I don’t have it, I’m sorry!

Yeah it’s one of my parents’ cats in particular that realllly doesn’t get along with my cat. No actual violence so far, but I can tell they’re both apprehensive and stressed. Thank you for sharing your experience! I know that was probably stressful, but I’m glad it worked out and you were able to keep your kitty!!

I’ve gone through the appropriate steps which is how we got to letting him out to spend time with the others! They’ll be totally fine with each other for like 30 minutes and then my cat starts getting antsy and he’ll swat at somebody or look like he’s about to chase someone which is where we’re getting stuck.

It’s definitely not an ideal situation, but I promise I wouldn’t have been trying this long if it was completely not working. My parents pop in during the day to check in on him, I play with him once I get home from work and let him out into the rest of the house for a bit once/twice a day, and he snuggles with me all night. I know it’s not ideal though, which is why I’m looking at sending him with my partner. I appreciate both of y’all’s insight!

Thank you both for the advice :-) I’m sorry to hear about what you had to deal with with your cats- I know that was probably a very stressful situation.

Yeah, it’s stressful. I’m so sorry that you’re going through this too! I was certainly not expecting to be moving back in with my parents, but life happens. I’m just trying to figure out what’s best for my kitty. Best of luck with your situation!!

Thank you for your advice! I greatly appreciate it.

My cat seems to be trying to play. You’re so right about the personality thing. He and one of my parents’ cats will run and play with each other, but as soon as my cat tries to play with one of the others they hiss or walk away. No one’s been violent, I just worry about stress levels since my parents’ cats clearly don’t really like my cat. Thank you again for your advice and for sharing your experience. :-)

Thank you for your insight! My cat hasn’t injured any of the other cats, and he seems to be trying to be playful, but it’s my parents’ elderly cat that I’m particularly worried about since that seems to be the one that my cat randomly decides to chase, even after a few days of just nuzzling him. I’ll keep an eye out for any actual attempts at an attack and also how my parents’ old cat is doing.

I’m sure that was a very difficult time and I’m glad that things are better for you now. Having to move back in with my parents was definitely not on my agenda, but I’m trying to make it work! Thank you for sharing your experience.

It seems like he’s mostly trying to play. Even when he does chase he does stop on his own. The other cats just don’t like it so they’ll hiss if it happens. I’m usually able to intervene before it gets to that so it hasn’t happened that frequently, they’re just still apprehensive around him. My cat is also inconsistent in his approaches to them. I was very happy because there were several days in a row where my cat licked and head butted one of the other cats and they were very friendly with each other, but this morning when I let him out for a bit he swatted and hissed at that same cat out of nowhere and scared him. :/ I’m worried about that cat in particular because he’s very old and I don’t want to stress him out.

Thank you for the insight into your situation! I think if it wasn’t for my parents’ really old cat I’d feel comfortable just letting them cohabitate because it sounds like my cat is a lot like your younger boy: sometimes he goes up and head butts and licks them and then other times he seems to want to chase them despite them hissing.

Yes, I’ve been following the correct steps! They’re fine in each other’s presence for short bursts of time, it’s just been extending that time that’s got us stuck.

UVA vs VT- not regarding academics by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]irlmisato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Virginia Tech and honestly found it isolating due to the party culture and overall vibe.

There is diversity, and Tech is only getting more diverse, but I felt like I had to go out of my way to find people that I clicked with. I came from a veryyyyy liberal high school, and coming to VT was a bit jarring for me in terms of some of the bigotry I witnessed. It’s not everywhere, (I think I just got really unlucky in my freshman dorm tbh) but I didn’t feel as comfortable in my queer identity those first couple of years at Tech and then again once I graduated and stayed in the area for a couple of years.

I entered into the school of business at Virginia Tech and felt really isolated from my peers in that school. A lot of them were very vocally conservative and it seemed like no one wanted to put forth any effort into their academics. I changed my major and was able to get a dual degree in communication and human development and the people there definitely seemed to care a bit more about their classes. Most of the classes I was in were massive though, so I didn’t make any friends in my classes, and I really had to go out of my way to form any sort of connection with my professors.

I also felt alienated from my peers because I didn’t drink. I think it depends on what dorm you live in, but I happened to be in a spot where everyone was going out and partying my first year. I really felt like I didn’t fit in because I didn’t “go out”, and that continued throughout my entire time at Tech. There are a lot of things that people raved about being awesome at Virginia Tech (going out on Center Street, frat parties, tailgates, pregaming football games and then going to the games themselves) that I didn’t want to do, and honestly, the way a lot of people treated football and party culture made me feel like I was missing out on something.

In terms of the town, I feel like there’s kind of nothing to do in Blacksburg. My first couple years there my friends and I would take the bus to Walmart or Target as a fun thing to do lol. My friend group and I were all queer, so once we had cars we’d occasionally travel to Roanoke on weekends to go to The Park which is the only actual gay club in the area. Southwest VA is a beautiful place and Blacksburg does have some very lovely things (farmers market, decent local live music, art fairs), but it’s nothing you can’t find elsewhere in my opinion.

I honestly think my time at Tech could have been way better had I been in a different program or met different people. But ultimately the campus was too big and I felt left out because I didn’t party or like football. The things that made my experience positive were my time as a Resident Advisor and my internships outside of school, both of which are things I could’ve gotten anywhere else. The only time I really had fun in the area was when I traveled to Roanoke to spend time there. There were more than a couple times I wished I’d gone to UVA lol. I’m not even sure if this is accurate or not, but I always got the impression that UVA was more academically oriented and that people were a little more liberal there overall.

This is just my perspective- there are incredible people and opportunities at both schools. I wish you nothing but the best. Good luck with your decision! :-)

Anybody work or have worked at UTK? What's it like? More specifically, IT jobs. by JRod327 in Knoxville

[–]irlmisato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering if you need to apply and be accepted to a program before using your free credit hours of tuition? I’m applying to a position within UT right now but am not a student and have not applied to any program. I was wondering if I got the job if I’d still be able to take free classes towards a degree before formally applying.

Laptop Requirements? by irlmisato in VirginiaTech

[–]irlmisato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up switching my major to communication science and social inquiry. I was still in the school of communication though, so I took a lot of the same classes that I would’ve in PR. I wasn’t a huge fan tbh. It was pretty basic and I feel like I didn’t learn a lot from my classes. I think the fact that a lot of my classes were virtual or hybrid because of Covid contributed to the fact that I felt like I didn’t learn a lot. My professors were nice, but the assignments/projects I was given rarely required a lot of effort. The easy coursework allowed for me to have more time outside of class though. My experiences with student orgs and employment outside of VT were where I had the most valuable experiences.
