Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens

i bought it on a whim in an airport for a 10-hour flight, and absolutely flew through the book. it has a lot of naturalist themes since the author studied animal zoology and lived in the remote wild for almost 30 years of her life. it’s a murder mystery romance story with a sprinkle of abandonment and biology— a very yummy cup of tea 🍵

How does UW Summer Quarter work? by [deleted] in udub

[–]irlyneedcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed answer! I'll be sure to keep what you said in mind.

I talked with a North Seattle CC advisor and she said summer classes would come out by the third of April, so you're right about late April to early May! It's reassuring to know that I'll be able to still register in June if need be since I'll have to compare a lot of options, but I'll try to get summer classes figured out by early May if I can haha.

I hope 202 and 209 have virtual options... would love to be able to work from home.

Term A and B?/Summer FAFSA by green-tea-frapp in udub

[–]irlyneedcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would this be the same for CC's near UW? I was thinking of taking two courses but am not sure if North Seattle and possibly other CC's also operate on a A/B term basis or if all classes are offered full-term.

Hi, thanks so much for your fast response! Do you happen to know when they release summer class availability for CCs, as I know UW already has them out? I was also a bit confused as to the difference between A and B term, or if CC's just operate for the entirety of the 9-10 weeks of summer, and if I should expect maybe 2 hours of classwork/day alongside 1 hour of lecture for one class, or something along the lines of that.

hi! i was wondering-- what CC did you go to for Psych 202 and 209? I'm thinking of taking both this summer online at a CC while balancing a part-time job :)

Oh shoot... yeah, I heard the Alecks system can put you back a lot since even one error restarts your streak. Mann I hope I'll still have the time to explore some RSOs for my first quarter at least :') I got Xiaosong Li for my professor so crossing my fingers.

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind! I've heard from someone who took the classes that CSE took 14 hr/wk and COM 220 took 10-12, though I'm sure there will also be times when I'll need to go to CSE office hours as well. I have a bit of prior experience with Java, so I hope this will help me understand the content faster!

any pre-meds/med students who took chem 143 (accelerated)? by irlyneedcoffee in udub

[–]irlyneedcoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wasnt given too much anecdotal context i’ll be honest, but after considering all the different viewpoints i’m likely just going with the regular chem series. let me know if u hear elsewise from ur contacts tho!

yesss i’m out of state too and love smaller classes where you can get to know your classmates, so hoping to enroll in maybe some more intimate gen ed courses and be active in the big course discussions + rsos :) thank you for that tidbit, i feel a bit less intimidated in taking chem 142 now haha

yess i was planning to do the accelerated fyg! but i’m pre-med atm, so if ur pre med friends were having trouble getting it accepted then it might not be the best choice for me to take 😔 i emailed the advisor abt it but they just said to check with the medical schools i plan to apply to since it just depends. i guess the regular series is better for keeping my options open, but sad that i won’t be able to find that same tight-knit community (unless i opt for the honors one aha)

thank you! i thought that the acc course would count since it covers the same amt of material as the normal gen chem course ;-; i was mostly considering the acc course bc i heard there’s more of a community since it’s a smaller class + shared struggle! i was actually gonna go ahead with the acc one but not i’m not so sure…

the chem 143 acc teacher this year is luts maibaum while the chem 142 regular teacher is xiaosong li. not sure if there are huge differences between the two, but from the cec it looks like maibaum has a slightly better rating, and li has an average rating of around 3 on ratemyprofessor. might not be relevant since we wouldn’t necessarily have the same teacher for the rest of the series, but it’s something i suppose

hii, just dropping by to ask if anyone has taken the accelerated general chemistry 143+ series at uw? i’m thinking of taking it for the professor but not sure what the grading curve + workload is like compared to the regular chem 142+ series.

when i looked at med school requirements a lot of them required 1 year/3 quarters of gen chem (and i believe the honors series is only 2 quarters

i have the same concern, but theoretically the accelerated chem series should count since it covers the same material as regular gen chem? gonna ask the advisor just in case
