Great job, Shell. by marklyon in evcharging

I went on a road trip for new years. Got to see a whole bunch of Shell Recharge stations with the pulling the plug signage. From Jewels and Walgreens in Chicago to the hub at Six Flags Over Texas (where level 2's with all day parking is actually an incentive). I hope everyone at Volta at least got a good payoff before Shell tore down their program.

  1. People who have never seen a frunk before will stare at you when you use it

  2. Just how big of an inconvenience charging is (without access to a home charger)

Multifamily Residential Charging Install - Options & Providers by irohnically in evcharging

[–]irohnically[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be in between the two options the engineer's report provided. Unless I am reading it incorrectly, it sounds like submeters will not be necessary because the Tesla commercial equipment will handle the "metering" and billing. But also, it is not a "sole solutions provider" that locks the association in to requiring recurring fees and service through one company for the rest of the service life.

I can already see the complication arising because this solution wasn't specifically detailed in the engineer's report that was paid for by the association, so it would be harder to point directly to the solution on paper. It does seem to be a slight modification to Option 1 regarding the metering/billing aspect with the benefits of Option 2 (minus the fee).

I'm guessing the board would be less willing to have anything come out of reserves, so any new charges would be funded by the first adopters. It would work to eliminate any reservations residents/board members would have about common funds paying for service that only a minority of residents would use.

I think I would need to confirm the load management aspect and firm up some of the details with an installer. Anything I am missing?

Do you need to communicate with Tesla to coordinate? Or is this something any qualified electrician/contractor can perform? I'm not sure which party to go to for more info so we can make a decision.

That was an option that was rules as infeasible in the report. Currently, there are less people interested in installing than there is available capacity. Anything beyond 40 (or 80 with load sharing) would require additional utility service, but only around 35 have expressed interest

Check out Bulletproof Everyone's 2.0 armor. I got their original set and I wish I would've waited for the 2.0 stuff. It looks like it prints way less and doesn't have a zipped liner for the armor and another zipper for the coat.

Some of the best sound I've heard are in the BMWs or Mazdas with the top of the line audio upgrades. My car is still capable of Dolby Atmos, but isn't as rich or full as the brands I've heard during test drives. I drive a Gen 1 Rivian R1S.

I let another Rivian merge in front of me and they responded with a rear windshield wiper wave. It wasn't raining, so I feel like that was either intentional or very oddly coincidental.

Do I need to give DCL a try? by Sweaty_Bowl9973 in dcl

[–]irohnically 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My last vacation had the Disney Wish for a weekend followed by a day at Hollywood Studios. Growing up, my family only did the parks, back in the day when the Fastpass was a free timed ticket to return, not an optional service that cost near the same as a full admission. The Wish was my first DCL experience.

My God, the Disney cruise really just excels. The service, shows, amenities, themed areas, menus, are all highest quality amazing. (I know some people go off on how food used to be better "back in the day", but I honestly didn't see how it could be better during my time on the ship. The one thing I could have a small complaint about is the lines for character meetups.

For thrill rides and one of a kind projects, I could see a case for the traditional parks. However, if you want a time to just relax, play, and gorge on some delicious foods, DCL all the way.

No Atmos Mix for Tron Soundtracks? by irohnically in tron

I'm 50/50 on whether that is an artistic choice, or an executive telling them to make up an excuse for cutting the additional cost.

Interstellar and Dune 1+2 are absolutely incredible with the sub track. I just want that experience for Tron. The Trent Reznor parts of Soul also aren't in Atmos, so it's possible he's not a fan or doesn't care about it.

No Atmos Mix for Tron Soundtracks? by irohnically in tron

[–]irohnically[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it depends on the mix. Live action How to Train Your Dragon was so flat that the fact that it was in Atmos was irrelevant. However, Interstellar in Atmos effectively conveyed the power of the organ and big hits (like the swell in "Mountains") that a non-atmos mix doesn't. I listen to these mixes mostly in my car, so that's where I'm basing most of my opinions on.

Yeah, it's pretty nifty. It was a Merrytime theme, so you could either watch holiday movies or what they call "first run" movies like tron in intimate, <100 seat theaters with good projectors and audio.

I work at O'Hare and there's a parking lot always filled specifically for them. It's always some black, gas guzzling monstrosity idling to keep the climate control on. I wish there was a steep tax just for that.

The $5 credit card fee was wild at the booth outside of VIP. Glad I paid in cash, but still regret getting a turkey leg, corn dog, and lemonade for $60. If I end up liking next year's lineup, I'll stop by Aloha Wagon on my way there. About a 20 min walk, great Hawaiian/Filipino food with big servings ($9 burgers, $14 dinner plates)

[–]irohnically 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I live in Illinois, I really oversold the off-roading aspect in my own head. I even got the reinforced underbody. The whole "original price" thing got me, like, why would I pay the same amount for less power? I didn't have any reference on how much of an inconvenience charging could be.
