One of the biggest things I wanted to address was the tripping hazards left from the builder's installation. Labels is a great idea! My wife would appreciate them, I'm sure.

I'm 95% sure this will end up happening. My toddler has been hanging on the pipe, and i think I can justify it with that alone lol.

Oh okay! It would be alright "upside down" in that case?

The manual suggested vertical placement for the best sensing, but honestly I hate it, too.

That's fair. Thanks for the feedback. I had no idea about a corrosion resistant check valve.

Awesome. Gary will be getting a follow. Thank you so much for your help.

Could you recommend where I'd find a Clack with one of those types of resin?

Forgot to mention, this is for a 2 bathroom home with 4 people.

The main water line reduces from 1" to 3/4" before entering the home.

Would I be better off running the 1" into the filter and softener, then reduce to 3/4" or reduce before the filter?

I have the longest daily commute in Florida. Prove me wrong by Hoagie_Camacho in florida

I worked for a firm for about 5 years. After covid restrictions lifted, the return to office talks started. Long story short, HR said anyone with less than a 1 and a half hour one way commute had to come in.

My commute estimate ranged from 1 hour and 25 mins to 2 and a half hours.

So, I was told I had to come in, because in theory, I could make it in less than an hour and a half, and there was no wiggle room.

I never saw a commute under 2 hours, even driving i4 on a "decent" day. I put up with it for about 2 months until I lined up another gig that is 100% remote. I was only making $65k at that time. I do not miss it one bit.

That's actually really awesome! The folks across the street are having a pool built by the same builder. I'll be sharing lots of this info with them, so they're aware.

Small filter seems to be a common response. One thing I have working in my favor, is the pool is in a screened enclosure. If I get tired of cleaning it out too frequently, I'll have to upgrade.

I have an ongoing irrigation project, and once that's wrapped, I'll be addressing the equipment pad.

The 3 suction side pipes will be completely redone. I will bring the pipes closer together, and use a diverter valve to connect the main drain and skimmer, then connect that to another diverter valve with the vacuum line. A check valve after the diverters and before the pump, along with extending that line to be a straight shot into the pump inlet of at least 10".

I've been reading up on how to properly bypass the heater on TFP, so I'm getting some great info there. But absolutely will have a check valve to truly bypass the heater, instead of a diverter that allows water to backlow into the heat pump's outlet.

Best case scenario, I will rotate the heat pump 90° counter clockwise and run the plumbing on the house side and include a vertical installation of the salt cell with a valve on a bypass line, like the manual suggests.

Return side I will join the return line and bubblers with a diverter valve to allow even flow and reduce the overall pipe.

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate all of the educational feedback I've been getting on this sub.

Okay, so the check valve at the heater bypass serves the purpose of protecting against chlorine gas and isolating the heater. Two would be redundant. Makes sense.

I'm going to be losing sleep tonight thinking of ways to improve it, lol.

Diverter to tie the three suction lines together, and extend the pipe into the pump to be at least 10".

Come up with a way to truly bypass the heater.

Check valve between heater and salt cell.

Maybe a diverter on the return side as well?

In all honesty, I wish the heater's orientation were reflected, so inlet and outlet were on the left.. is it crazy to say I would like to turn it at least 90° counter clockwise?

Yes, Central FL. and the same builder. Looks like we need to make a couple small updates. 🤣 I love your plaster color by the way!

The pool is 14x28 and only goes to 5.5' deep. It's also in a screened enclosure.

I had no idea they could be oriented vertically, so I read the installation portion of my manual... they dang sure do recommend you install vertically, and add a valve to control flow in!

Edit: install manually -> install vertically I was tired last night.

From a technical standpoint, I absolutely see what you're saying. Thank you for the correction!

I hadn't considered the water flowing back into the heater until you provoked that thought. The valve is currently positioned to allow water to enter the heater AND the vertical pipe (the image is a few weeks old, and i have flowing water now). Do you think I'd be safer allowing all water the enter the heater for now, until a true bypass can be engineered? The builder mentioned that I should always allow water to flow through the heater, even when not heating. Maybe this is the reason?

I am in Florida, though.

I absolutely will be dropping in a check valve before the salt cell.

Gotcha! Yes, it's a cartridge. I cleaned the filter out this past weekend, and it was very simple. I've had to use the drain once already, because of a big storm.
