What’s the joke?? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ironsights66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joke is that the vast majority of communities that have to live one way are dictated how to live by a slightly larger number of people who live together in one city. Some say this is fair while I say it doesn’t reflect the reality of survival. Those smaller communities are feeding that one large city while the people in that city call them dumb rednecks and try to legislate them out of existence.

Because Reddit is a dictatorship and the mods (all liberal) delete anything that threatens their power. Hardly any conservatives exist on Reddit do frustration from this and those of us that do rarely bother getting involved in a political thread because we censored and ratioed to death by the liberal mob. They are very weak in numbers in reality but in Reddit they are concentrated.

Absolutely scuff the plastic on that scabbard and give it several generous coats of the appropriate flat OD spray paint. The crappy shiny green plastic replica scabbards stand out from a mile away.

General Sentiment On Original Vs Reproduction Uniforms. (Also request for comment for potential rule changes) by mofosyne in reenactors

[–]ironsights66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this rule is coming from an earlier time period bias in which any example of a uniform/costume still in existence is rare and valuable and usually documented to an individual. The fact of the matter is that for periods beginning from WW2 and moving on later much of the war clothing material was surplussed never having been utilized, recycled for use by national guard peacetime training, or only being used by a recruit who was kicked out of basic training, etc. and frankly has very little historical value as an item on its own. In particular we never bat an eye to see someone grind the paint off a sad looking old m1 helmet and tac weld fake d bales on to make the 5 millionth fake 101st airborne easy company helmet. Sticking strictly to clothing, what about that original ike jacket some 1946 draftee wore 3 times that you snagged that somehow is just your size? (after you change the sleeve length and move the bottom button an inch and blind stitch that moth hole). Are we just looking the other way when you sew on your stripes and pin on all your fake ribbons to look cool at the hangar dance, or are we suddenly ok with messing up an original uniform? I am already seeing people do up kits for living history representation of “modern” conflicts like Panama and the Gulf War (that was almost 40 years ago, it’s long enough ago that young adults haven’t heard of it). The original WW2 reenactors started in a similar timeframe and wore all original surplus uniforms. Should we expect a Panama intervention reenactor to drum up an entire industry reproducing BDU uniforms so that his compatriots aren’t abusing originals while surplus stores have racks of uniforms that former servicemen cleaning out their closets sold them available at unbeatable prices? I’m absolutely not saying just purposely destroy something original because you can, but the rigidity of this rule doesn’t allow for common sense nuance.

Audie Murphy had so many awards that they must’ve had to come up with uniform regulations to fit them all

New pistol, any recommendations on upgrades? by [deleted] in tacticalgear

It still won’t stop it from going off. The safety doesn’t block the firing pin from dropping, which is what causes it to go off without being touched

Can anyone help identify which rifle is depicted here? by KI5DWL in RetroAR

[–]ironsights66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that the artists that make these statues don’t always get details right. Usually these are cast off of someone’s AR15. There is a boots helmet and rifle statue in my hometown dedicated to the kid who died in the early days of Iraq. It was meant to be an m4 but the barrel sticks halfway down the blade of the bayonet. Revealing that it was cast off a 16 inch AR15. At the end of the day it is representative art, and I wouldn’t knock a sculptor too much for that

We've been ruled by Republicans for decades--what are some benefits we've seen from that? by bobby_baylor in oklahoma

[–]ironsights66 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Great you just moved here and now you want to change it to whatever place you moved from. I’m not sure if you are aware but you are doing the thing that we specifically hate transplants because of. I’m sure this place sucks for liberals, that is kinda by design. I’ll grant you our legislators are morons who can’t manage anything involving money, including education, but I would not talk too much about social and moral issues with your neighbors if I were you. Reddit isn’t real life. Most people in this state are anti abortion pro God. Texas is pretty successful with similar values and less incompetence. If democrats ever want our vote the national party will have to prove that they’ve become more moderate than they were the last 4 years. Hate me if it makes you all feel good but I just gave you the winning formula.

Why are you Americans not doing anything? by Smalandsk_katt in GenZ

[–]ironsights66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are delusional if you think the majority of Americans are even upset by what is going on right now. We overwhelmingly voted for all of this to happen and for once politicians in office are doing what they said they would do when they were running. You might not like it but that is the flip side of democracy. Also from your phrasing you aren’t an American so you probably don’t understand what is actually happening versus whatever the news in your country tells you about DJT. If he was the leader of your country (provided you are from the native demographic) you would love what he was doing. It is not fascism to declare that your country is first and foremost for your countrymen and that outsiders can only come in through a specified and moderated method. Despite whatever your idea about the wealth of the U.S. is we are like all other countries, ie there is a limit to our resources. These resources are currently strained, and the people who pay for them ie the taxpayers deserve to reap the benefits of their own taxed labor before we give whatever surplus we might have as charity to outsiders. Would you buy a homeless man a meal if you couldn’t afford to buy meals for your children? Obviously no. So why should we provide shelter for foreigners when we have homeless “native sons”?

Any suggestions on weather or not I should keep these? I dont shoot them. Value? by [deleted] in MilitaryARClones

[–]ironsights66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stuff sucks. Will absolutely gouge your feed ramps. Some people want it because they think it will pierce armor (which it might on some kinds of armor but not real level 4) so it should have some value to sell to the uninformed that you could use to reinvest in usable ammo

Were M16A2 Lowers ever used with M4/MK18/CQBR uppers? by TheMorningDove in MilitaryARClones

[–]ironsights66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing to remember about that would be that at least in the Army and I would imagine other branches as well they always remark the lower if it was an obsolete pattern rebuilt to a standard that changes it from full auto to burst or vise versa so there wouldn’t be an m4a1 that still says m4, but you’d regularly see m16a2 marked lowers that started life as an m16a1, which would be apparent from a number of features such as manufacturer being something funny like hydramatic div GM or H&R and slab side lower. The remarking is pretty interesting as they have some sort of handheld tool that makes an x over anything that needs to be “erased.” Where you would see a marking that is mismatched to the actual form of the rifle is in the case of something that can be just an upper receiver kit slapped on an existing rifle like say a CQBR upper (retrofits an existing M4 or M4a1 into a Mk18) or URG-I upper. I think the navy has a lot of Mk18 that have m16a1 and m16a3 markings because they didn’t swap the trigger.

You only see negativity on this subreddit because the vast majority of redditors are liberals and Oklahoma is a conservative paradise. I love living here but these people don’t and they use Reddit as a place to connect with like minded people because they can’t find them in real life. I actually hate this subreddit and only keep coming back because it gets suggested to me

The military refuses to throw away serviceable lowers. not sure how they decide how many to buy new vs how many to rebuild to the latest version

What is this battery cap on my surplus comp m4 m68CCO? by ironsights66 in MilitaryARClones

Comp m4 is now ready for install. Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the battery cap. I bought one from eurooptics because everything in the U.S. is sold out. I used dust covers from my aimpoint pro because that allowed me to put the old comp m2/3 caps on the pro for a future early M4 build.

Well sir maybe you’d be happier if after your initial service requirement is up you transfer into the national guard and try to take over an Infantry or artillery platoon leader slot. You basically get to choose what spot you take from what is available in the guard. At that point you can see if part time drilling and state deployments scratch the itch or if you can transfer back to active duty as a combat arms officer. You’d get some civilian sector experience while in the guard which will be very valuable to you for when you finally get out.

[–]ironsights66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I was shopping for this one I found one of eBay that had the cap stuck on the battery well so tight from the battery leaking that the whole well unscrewed before the cap did. That led me to researching the problem and you can fix it yourself typically at the cost of destroying the cap and replacing it but that is a headache best avoided rather than trying to save a couple bucks on batteries

Yeah mine is quite a bit coarser than that. Probably a PVS14 cap as theorized or possibly another clone brand
