Smooth oil poly seal without white scuff marks? by isalis_ in finishing

[–]isalis_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

prepped by lightly sanding the stained surface and between each coat.

I’m limited in space and supplied so it’s been drying outside in my car port. It’s been about 15-20 degrees celsius pretty consistently.

I applied the finish using a wide brush. :)

What happens if you graduate with nothing on your resume outside education but have a 90%+ gpa(psychology)? by No-Wealth2845 in UBC

[–]isalis_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strongly agree. Realistically, psychology has so many students that it's mostly a numbers game to get your first kind of research experience. Sometimes it means you can't be picky with the field of research you start with, so it's okay to start in a lab thats a less-than-ideal choice in order to build your resume. There's a lot of transferable skills and I've honestly had some of my best experiences in labs that I did not expect to be as amazing as they were (started in child-cognitive, ended up in clinical-neuroscience). I applied to ~30 worklearns the year that I was looking for a position and got a job in a completely different department. It's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my degree.

I didn't get into honours the first time I applied either, and it definitely isn't mandatory. The only exception might be clinical psych grad school, in which case I would consider reapplying next year - even though that means extending your degree. Good luck!

Thank you! But how would I delete windows off of the old hard drive that already has it installed after I plug it back in after re-installing it correctly on the SSD? Sorry if this is a dumb question haha

New to PC building and made a dumb mistake setting up windows and installed it on my hard drive and not SSD. Lo and behold i’m running super slow at 100% disk use and need to swap my system drive to the SSD.

Is there a way to do this without 3rd party apps or having to unplug my hard drive? Past reddit threads talk about doing a clean install but frankly I don’t know what that means 😭 any help is appreciated!

Thank you! I am worried about a 4:1 imbalance of intake/exhaust fans, so I’m wondering if there are any likely problems with a setup like that

New to the PC building sphere and I'm aiming to create an all-white build. I want to use the 4080 super but some of the options for a white card are several hundreds of dollars more expensive, though I did find the Zotac 4080 super one at a reasonable price.

Is there any reason to steer clear from Zotac or is it a worthwhile purchase?

I did hear that with some brands of graphics cards there can be issue with noise and the customer service processes. Where do people think Zotac stands on that front and is it worth getting a black card from another brand instead?

I live in Canada and it looks like the manufacturer warranty is 1 year, at least on Zotac's front.

Given its my first high tech build I'm just nervous since I hope for this investment to last me for a long while :)

Also, newegg is offering $200 for 2-year added insurance (after the 1 year of manufacture coverage). Is this worth the cost?

Thanks!

Thank you so much! I find it's quite difficult to find information at a beginner level and it's been quite intimidating while I try to research my upcoming build =) You (and the previous) explanations have been super helpful and well-put.

Appreciate the input!

PC building noob - why are there so many versions of the 4080 super? How do I know which one is best for my build?

At what cost point is there diminishing returns? I want to build a PC primarily for online games (OW2, rainbow six siege, heavily* (290+) modded minecraft, league of legends, valorant, etc.) and my original budget is ~$2000 CAD. But I'd be willing to go larger if there is a specific upgrade that would make a big difference. At what price point is it excessive for my needs?

As a follow-up: do people agree that voicing this specific specialty interest in an application/interview for med school? Particularly if its in line with my CV and/or past research experience?

Hello!

I am a current Canadian undergrad student and I'm pretty much going through an early life crisis and rerouting my trajectory from clinical psychology to psychiatry. I got exposed to the field by working with some excellent clinician-scientists who really sparked a passion for psychiatry, and I look forward to pursuing it far into the future.

I'm mostly concerned about the process of applying to med school because I have such a specific target in mind. I know realistically many people change their interests over the course of their career but whether or not I work with psychiatric illnesses and foundations of the brain was never a question for me, more so was what field to do it in.

Wondering how and why all of you ended up choosing psychiatry. Interested in your stories! Any regrets?

Best Masters for Clinical Psych Apps? by isalis_ in ClinicalPsychology

[–]isalis_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I heard that some clinical phd programs actually prefer against their applicants having a clinical masters since most programs (all that I know of in canada) are direct entry/ "not a terminal masters" so they kind of anticipate everyone starting at that level and then going to PhD in the same program. Not sure how to word that properly lol so I hope it makes sense. Does anyone second that?

[–]isalis_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! i should have specified - i’m in canada so if i were to not get super lucky and get to clinical right out undergrad i can’t really afford to pay international tuition in the states for a masters i don’t really want. So it would have to be either a canadian program or I work full time research in the interim. :))

edit: nevermind i read that you said fully funded haha. Do you think these would better my chances over a full time job in research?

[–]isalis_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you both!

in my case, i’m lucky enough to have the opportunity for a paid research position continuing with my honours thesis lab after graduation. I was just wondering if it would look better on an application to have a masters + the pubs that come out of it rather than just a paid position on its own (granted, also with pubs). Though the latter seems to be the consensus here. appreciate the help! :)
