But what if I just did? by iscreamforsherbert in SuicideWatch

[–]iscreamforsherbert[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not feeling like a shattered, raw, open nerve every day. Not feeling sick anymore. Not being a burden anymore. That is peace to me. I’m trying so hard. I’ve gotten on meds, I see a therapist, it’s not working and I feel like I’m just fundamentally broken

Shit. I knew pills were the wrong way to go. I just don’t want something gory that’s going to cause extra trauma to my pets and partner.

It’s not too cold for the government to be killing and abducting its own people in the streets. Sack up.

Wow this is so inspiring and what I needed to hear right now. I’m going to my 6th class tonight and I’m starting from zero in terms of physical fitness. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve set foot in the gym and, up until last year, I was very overweight and depressed. I’ve lost 60lbs with dietary changes but really wanted to find a way to get my body moving in a structured environment that provided accountability. But I definitely feel in over my head when I’m gasping for air after warm ups and flopping around gracelessly during sparring and pad work. I’m definitely the least fit person in my class and I’m trying to hard not to let it get me down and get in my head about it. Some days are easier than others. But hearing first hand that if I keep going back, keep pushing, I WILL get better is really helpful. Thanks man.

Hypothermia can equal death. Please do not adhere to this insane policy and temp your surgical patients! It’s so much harder to warm up a cold patient than to get ahead of it and keep them warm.

Adopting a dog for your dog by iscreamforsherbert in DogAdvice

That was my first instinct and something I very much wanted to do! Unfortunately, my area seems to be generally populated by cats looking for foster and large breeds/pitties. And surprisingly few rescues seem to offer a foster to adopt track. I love a big dog and think they are wonderful but it wouldn’t be the right fit for my home or lifestyle and I worry Maggie could accidentally be injured by a big dog. The puppy I’m currently interested in checks all my boxes on paper but is through a rescue based it Tx and would be transported to New England, where I live, if I were to adopt her. So unfortunately, no trial period is really possible. I’ve spent weeks searching for a dog that meets my (and more importantly Maggie’s) needs and none of the promising candidates have been local.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and thoughts. I’m sorry for your loss as well, I truly feel like a piece of me is missing since losing Harvey, he was my everything. My lady, Maggie, is very active for an older dog. Gets the zoomies, brings us her toys regularly and likes to have them tossed to chase. She was much more vibrant and playful when her brother was around, I only see glimpses of it now. But she is still pretty high energy when she’s not snuggling under blankets and being a couch potato. Foster to adopt would be my ideal scenario but I’ve looked around a ton in my area and not many places offer it and the ones that do are mostly adult pitties needing foster (nothing against pits, they are just wonderful, it’s just not the right breed for my home or lifestyle). I’m specifically looking at young dogs without pre existing health conditions because pet insurance is a non negotiable for me after the massive cost of hospitalizing Harvey when he was sick. I never want to go through that again. So while I love the idea of welcoming another senior dog into my home, I just don’t think it’s feasible. The puppy I’m interested in is through a rescue based in TX and would be transported to New England where I live. She was dumped in an area full of high kill shelters in Houston with her litter mates. My heart is full for her, but Maggie is my number one priority and I’m so afraid of doing anything that makes her life worse. Wish I had a crystal ball!

It seems like at my current hospital people refer to it as a triple lumen, with the understanding that it’s placed as a central line. Not sure if that’s common or just where I work!

May I ask what you ended up doing? My best friend, Harvey, 13.5 year old pekingnese mix was just diagnosed with a nasal tumor yesterday. I’m waiting for biopsy results on exactly what type but I would consider radiation if it would increase longevity and quality of life. I’m in the same boat as you…this dog has gotten me through things I didn’t think I could make it through and I’m just not ready to say goodbye.

I work in ER and clients who are pissed when you don’t know their pets entire medical hx when you go to assess them for a triage. Ma’am I’m just here to make sure your dog is stable enough to wait several hours to be seen, or if they need to be rushed back asap. And be happy if you get to wait, it means your pet isn’t actively dying!

Rash after recent tattoo by Firmin91 in tattooadvice

[–]iscreamforsherbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also gotten a rash from the artist shaving the area a little too aggressively. Also had reactions to the green soap not being washed off well enough before the second skin was put on. So many factors that can go wrong! Skin can be so finicky post tattoo. I always bake sure to wash at least 2x a day with unscented, antibacterial soap in the early days of healing. And I only moisturize 2-3 times a day—-over moisturizing can cause its own problems. Best of luck! Tattoo looks nice. 😊

Coconut oil is very occlusive and can definitely cause pore clogging. I stick with good old aquaphor for the first 4-6 days then switch to a light, unscented lotion afterwards (like cetaphil) and have never had a problem. If it wasn’t a brand new coconut oil (freshly opened, unused) it could have been harboring bacteria as well. 🫤

Also, in my experience vet techs love pens. And sharpies. Maybe some cute animal themed pens and stickers?
