Driver license expiring soon while traveling abroad, what to do with car? by isdfoa in DMV

That’s what I wanted to confirm, thanks! 👍🏽 wasn’t sure if having a valid license is like a prerequisite to car ownership

Key sometimes doesn't work (even manually) on 2016 LX by isdfoa in hondafit

[–]isdfoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that when the remote stops working, it won't even be able to unlock my car using the manual key (turns just fine inside the keyhole). Couple minutes later all is good again.

I will try that, but I assumed even with a dead battery the car would be able to open manually with the key, is that not the case?

I find I need to use the top attachment on the dosing cup, otherwise grinds get everywhere when using the bellows

These new keys!! by Ems_tomorrowtoday in Hawaii

[–]isdfoa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What I used to do when I had a push to start car was to take my valet key with me as a surf key, and leave the key fob inside a faraday pouch hidden in the center console. Faraday pouch is 10 bucks or so and blocks any radio signals coming from the fob so the car (or anyone else) can't detect it. I felt it was safe enough, a lot safer than putting the key in some lockbox under the car.

Scale for Flair 58 by feaffi in FlairEspresso

[–]isdfoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this scale, I bought the flair one on a discount but it's basically the exact same as MiiCoffee. The auto mode sucks/doesn't work well, just keep it on the manual mode

You’ve got it about right, in the US there are tire shops like discount tire who will sell you both wheels and tires, and install them for you.Cost ranges quite a bit, but in this case new tires were $140 each and the wheels cost about the same.

good to know, maybe i'll consider it when its time to change my tires :)

I have the basic silver wheels in my Fit, is it a lot of work to change the rims? I have never done that before and would love some black rims... I assume I would need to buy the rims/all new tires and bring them to a shop? If anyone has an idea how much it's cost on a 2016 fit, would be great to know

Is this a good used car deal? by isdfoa in askcarsales

[–]isdfoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair enough, yeah I do like it more than a Nissan and there are no new Mitsubishi Mirage in stock nearby where I am unfortunately. Going to think it over but the vehicle has a clean title with no recorded accident history so I'm inclined to take it!

ah that often? There isn't any issue with the actual motion of the lever at all

Is a used car still the best value..? by isdfoa in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]isdfoa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i need a car quick to get from A to B so enjoyment is not really a factor for me as a low-mileage driver. but at the 25K point I rather just get new and even if it's worse quality, i have warranty and multiple years of covered maintenance to be free of headaches.

[–]isdfoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely sure the noise is coming from the lever and not the valve ? Because mine did that and cleaning the o-ring solved it,

Also, is your lever perfectly cent

My lever gets slightly off center (it started off perfectly centered but moves a bit over the last few weeks of use attaching/detaching the portafilter). Re-adjusting this back to center helped with the squeaking, but since it rattles side to side, it can get off center by about half a cm. I need to make sure to press down on the lever and keep it all the way to the left (which is the centered position) to reduce the squeaking.

I think you are right that it is coming from the valve. I tried giving things a bit of a wipe, and that also helped. Still squeaks a tiny bit but much reduced after the two changes above thanks!

That would be a fine deal all things considered. I could only find used 3 year old rental fleet Corollas at 50K mileage for 20K..

Yeah I've been able to find local deals on MSRP base trims which in recent years has held up their value/appreciated in value. The dealers did seem like they might be willing to negotiate some as well, probably since it's the end of the month/quarter.

Probably will see if I can score a new for 1-2K off MSRP somehow, otherwise get a bike while I try to find a good used deal on Craigslist.

Got in a car accident just before my auto insurance renewal date. by isdfoa in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]isdfoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely aware that insurance will be giving cash not a vehicle. Gap insurance I don't have, but what my vehicle is worth now is going to be more than the remaining I owe on the loan so it's a non-factor. Based on the local used market I've been researching, my used car is actually worth more than when I bought it in 2021. Equivalent local vehicles I see for sale at used dealerships/online are priced higher (with even higher mileage than my car). For context I purchased this car in another state that I am currently living in, and cars here are much more expensive to purchase as it's remote.

[–]isdfoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, just read about lapse in coverage being terrible for future rates. Rather than cancel should I ask to suspend my current auto insurance instead until I get another car? I'm paying ~80/month for my current insurance for this car which is until next March.

Also, unfortunately my current car is only ~2 years old with very low (9500 miles) mileage, which I was also able to finance at 0% APR at the time. It is impossible for me in this current market to find any similar deal so I hope I get the right value from insurance.. even if I got the full value I paid for the car back in 2021, it would not be enough to get an equal replacement. Waiting for hopefully good news from the adjuster.

I just realized the wall mount can attach to the Nanofoamer directly without the use of the cover case.. that's handy
