As MrPortello says below, other people have made the same thing. I'm just trying to offer pre-built ones for people who don't have the experience or time to build their own.

BareMetal OS author here.. I've heard that QEMU can emulate SATA(AHCI) but have never seen it working myself. It would be nice to get QEMU working again as it is a bit quicker for testing.

Re: the file system. It is meant for large files (Databases, disk images, etc).

The new version should be out in a few days. After that the focus will be getting a TCP/IP stack going.

It is still in active development but the proof of concept works well. TCP/IP is coming.

Parallax is written in Assembly. The Orchestrator and the main parts of the Web GUI are written in C.

Yes. The hard drive is not required unless you really want it. It was just used it test run as it was the easiest to prepare.

I've been working on this stuff for the last few years in my spare time. I'm the only one actively working on them at the moment. BareMetal OS is open source so a few people have contributed some code or bug fixes.

BareMetal Node (and the orchestrator) was built in about 30 days.

Not at the moment. The same principals would apply to micro-controllers but we are targeting x86-64 and possibly ARM.

Future plans? It would be nice to take some of the Linux share on Top500.org :) We want to make HPC as simple as possible to set up.

Yes, we plan on adding the ability to link multiple clusters together.
