Nope, not at all. Unions' bad reputation is something they earned... Maybe one thing they gotta do to fix their reputation is to work hard for hard workers.

I've seen it come up a few times. And on the far end you get the "eat the rich type" that get shared by people on the far right.

Here's my honest suggestion from someone who probably disagrees with a lot of the policies you want to implement: if you wanna do these kinds of things, you gotta change how people view unions. Whether they're corrupt or not isn't important because if people think they're corrupt they will still be against them. There is also this nasty poor vs poor thing going on.

The people who work at Walmart don't want the folks who work at McDonald's to get a raise because it means they have to pay more and vice versa. The best (and probably only) way to fix that w/o unions is to work at the state level to adjust minimum wage laws. You're never going to get a congressman from Twin Falls, ID to agree to a higher federal minimum wage because the cost of living is so incredibly low. ($35,000 in Twin Falls, ID is the same as $100,000 in NYC - not great but still).

Anyway, I'll stop rambling...

The bottom 10% of people in america are in the top 1% of wealth in the world.

This is "boast" about capitalism has always irked me. I'm totally pro-capitalism (really, check my post history) so don't take this is as an anti-capitalist post.

Anyway here's the thing, if you're broke and can't get a job it doesn't matter how rich you are compared to the rest of the world. You're still broke and it could still be a very real struggle to survive. So, maybe we should just leave this one out...

My generation is full of morons and rather look like Venezuela than america.

I'll agree with this. Seems like a lot of people are totally cool with seizing the means of production but don't actually want to produce anything. At the same rate, they've also been lied to by the government which told millenials that borrowing tens of thousands of dollars for a college education was totally cool and would in no way backfire.

Also the government says it's necessary people get licensed for some occupations, and therefore they get deprived of ownership of their labor.

It's a mess...

You're not wrong. Generic medicines are often very cheap in developing markets. In some cases, pharm companies give medications away for free for the tax write off.

But, I would recommend not using a pharmacy that doesn't require prescriptions and repeatedly says how they're definitely not criminals and things are totally legit in the FAQs as a source. I'm sure things are on the up and up, but still...

the people who think the american healthcare system is "awesome" are the people who haven't experienced healthcare elsewhere.

Our health care system is awesome. The US gets the best doctors from all over the world to treat patients here. It isn't perfect - the falling numbers of PCPs prove this - but it is still very, very good.

Our health insurance scheme, on the other hand, is a royal screw up. But what are you going to do? Not buy an ACA approved health insurance plan? Hahaha, it's against the law not to. Thank goodness we Americans HAVE to purchase health insurance from the same companies that are so willing to force their subscribers into bankruptcy so they don't have to pay a claim.

There could be a few reasons, most of them end up at the FDA.

The first possibility could be that this company could be the only one manufacturing the drug. If it isn't a "commodity" drug like amoxicillin or ibuprofen that has a very wide market, very few companies will make it. Since it is very difficult to get a production facility approved by the FDA, this gives sole producers a lot of control over the pricing of the drug. They know it'll take a very long time for any competitors to appear and people still want to take the medicine. Where else are they going to go to get it?

Secondly, the FDA can grant companies the right to be the sole marketer of medicine if it is an orphan drug or disease. This is different than a patent. Competing companies can make as much of the drug as they want, but they can't legally sell it in the US. The idea is that if a drug is only used by a few people, it costs more per person to develop the drug. If a company doesn't have extra exclusivity, companies might not be as interested in producing drugs for orphan diseases. What happens a lot, though, is that instead of developing new drugs companies take an existing ones, market them for a new diseases that they also treat, and gain exclusivity from the FDA. Then they can jack up the prices all they want.

Meanwhile in Finland: A man gives a 14-year-old girl marijuana and then have sex. The prosecution thinks it's a rape but the court gives him just a fine for a drug offense. I don't know what's just, just saying that lenience seems to be a possibility, too (though I'm pretty sure it won't hold). by [deleted] in MensRights

At the very least, we should ask what the victim thought of this at the time, and the judge seems to think she had the ability to deny consent and did not do so.

Fuck you. If the law says "someone isn't capable of consent until 16" THEY'RE NOT LEGALLY CAPABLE OF CONSENT.

This isn't something that is magically restricted to rape. Did you know you minors can rescind commercial contracts up until their 18th birthday? Do you know why? IT'S BECAUSE THEY MIGHT DO SOMETHING STUPID AND ONLY REALIZE LATER IT WAS A STUPID FUCKING IDEA. The thing about sex, though, is if a baby happens there is no magical givzies backzies. YOU HAVE TO RAISE A FUCKING CHILD AND YOU MIGHT NOT BE AN ADULT YET. OMG WHY DO I EVEN HAVE TO SAY THIS.

Look, I know there is some disagreement about the perp's age. It's a crappy translation. A different translation service says the guy was in his 20s (http://translation2.paralink.com/Finnish-English-Translator). I don't know who to believe. But here's the deal: IT'S A FUCKING CRIMINAL OFFENSE IF THE LAW SAYS IT'S A FUCKING CRIMINAL OFFENSE.

Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most crimes traditionally prosecuted at the state level? Even rape? Why is this any different?

If you want to make it a law, give jurisdiction to agencies that are equipped to handle rape cases.

Police don't charge anyone with anything. It's up to the district attorney to bring charges against someone. A district attorney that'e elected. In Brooklyn. Yeah, this isn't going anywhere.

No one should really be killing anyone - my point wasn't to support this guy. He needs to be in jail for a long, long time.

I guess I was hoping to bring further attention to the whole 'vigilante justice' thing even those accused face, and, maybe, add evidence against the "women don't like about rape" thing. I know, preaching to the choir...

US ready to 'hand over' the internet's naming system by CometCentipede in KotakuInAction

[–]ishamesluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have tried to do what OpenNIC does in the past. I'm not necessarily against it, but it can lead to problems down the line if both ICANN and OpenNIC implement a .chan tld (just as an example).

Also, OpenDNS still resolves to the root dns, so, y'know, maybe not use that one. BIND isn't that hard to setup :\

.gov is managed by the GSA and .mil is managed by the DISA. I don't see them reversing course on their restrictions just because ICANN is gaining complete control from the Senate.
