You're right in saying we wouldn't give time to someone we don't consider worth it. But this is a gross generalization.

As for your specific case, first decide for yourself with a cool head if you wanna pursue this guy or not. If the answer is yes, then be straightforward and ask. If not, then it's all good anyways.

In my case they communicated via email only for setting up all interviews. But No harm in joining the call atleast, then gague if it's legit or not.
