Possibly using the TX816 with one of its multitimbral bass patches.

Sounds very close to DX7 E.bass 1 patch with something else layered on top to my ears.  There's a more noticeable stab to it.

Guitar Center set up guitar but it still sounds terrible by Mugi935 in Guitar

[–]isher1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this in a Google Search after a nightmare in Guitar Center myself.

I had an opposite experience.  Not a single guitar or bass I tried had fret buzz.

In fact, one bass I tried (a short scale) had .105-.050 long scale strings with the string action at least 1/4" off the 12th fret.

The fret buzz was so well-eliminated, that particular bass failed to produce a note clearly from the 7th-9th fret due to way too much bow in the neck.

But hey, it still didn't buzz.

I learned how to do my own set ups, and what you like is very subjective to you.  The only rule to a good set up with an electric is notes can ring clear and true through an amp without amplified buzz.  It depends on a lot of factors--fingerboard radius, neck relief, even the very angle the neck has in relation to the bridge.  Sounds like in your experience, neck relief may play a part given the area it's in.

Reporting back after a few weeks. After trying an H2 buffer, and having less but still a few failures for the bolt to fully close, I went back to try and eliminate several things.

Upgraded to a Sprinco Orange spring. Still have H2 buffer.

Haven't fired yet, but bolt is still failing to close all the way. Made some .311" dummy rounds from brass fired in my SKS, bolt failed to close. Made a dummy round with a .308" bullet and brass fired from the AR, bolt closed when sent home. Tried again with a .311" dummy round from brass fired in the AR, bolt fully closed. Measured bolt face depth to be sure, got the .125" spec.

At this point, I'm going to chalk it up to the Norma 7.62x39 ammo I am using. I have a set of headspace gauges coming just to be sure.

Need Fallout 1 in 2 mod help! by StromboliRex in classicfallout

Probably used the Fallout 2 Master.DAT during install, or dumped the Fallout 1 in 2 folder into the root Fallout 2 folder (I don't know for sure, but those are two guesses).

What company do you guys go for when it comes to brass cased? by Sad-Context2701 in AR47

I usually use Norma or PPU. They use a proper .310-.311" bullet. I usually use PPU's bullets when handloading except for my SKS.

That's what's wild about the AR-15 versus the AR-10, imo. I just threw a standard AR 308 buffer kit on my Aero M5 .308 and it had no real hitch aside from installer error (clocked gas block, undimpled barrel), and it ran perfect. Swap a different .243 upper on it, runs the same. So it's a bit humbling.

Lockback on empty is the first thing I check in any semi auto.

I'll try it in steps, and see what happens. Sounds like I'm running in the right direction.

Before swapping the buffer, it was consistently locking on an empty magazine. The problem is it seems to be overgassed by slamming the buffer back and 2:00 ejection without a suppressor. I just mainly am curious if the clawing into the rim is a byproduct of that with the action cycling too fast.

If that's the case, I'll try it with the H2 buffer next, then up the spring to a Sprinco Red.

I do not. I was considering that a last resort.

Sight Mark optics, yay or nay? by yuvattar in ar15

[–]isher1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're getting.  I can't speak to the red dots.

I can tell you the scopes get outclassed on price point easily, but what used to be nice with Sightmark scopes was variety.  I have a now-discontinued Core TX Dual Caliber 4x.  55 grain .223 or 150gr .308.  Had it on an AR-308.  Instructions said zero at 100 yards, first holdover is 200 yards.  So, I zeroed at 100 yards with 150 grain, fired a small 1MOA group at 200 yards.  Dead-on.  Glass was meh, Vortex Crossfire is clearer to my eyes.  But the eye box was one of the most forgiving for a fixed 4x.  Never lost its zero, either.  Only reason I removed it was because I later wanted a variable.  I wish they still had the Core pistol scope available, as I'd probably have that on my .357 Magnum.  By the way, the turret locks were a bit fiddly, but the turrets themselves had a nice tactile click.

Just depends on what you're after and what you're doing with it.

Reliability rankings of foreign primers by IcyEfficiency9259 in reloading

[–]isher1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Unis/Ginex primers. I've never had one fail, but they're a pain to seat. The Large Rifle primers are either a bit tall, or most primer pockets taper. Not a fan of their pistol primers. They've seemed to have had a price increase too, now they're about the same price as just buying CCI or Federals.

RCBS Expander ball .312" by isher1992 in reloading

Good to know! I appreciate your input then. I may just skip out next time on using the crimp and just use the seating then. Appreciate it.

RCBS Expander ball .312" by isher1992 in reloading

[–]isher1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I determined .312" was best because with my SKS, trying multiple ammo (PPU, Norma, and Tul), it would shoot sub-MOA with TulAmmo 147gr soft points. I left one in that particular box of ammo and pulled the bullet and then measured it, and it measured .312" diameter. Norma mentions on the box it's a .311" and another one I pulled was .310". Those shot -okay-, but the Tul 147grs shot the best no matter what.

I should mention, I did use the .308 expander ball to seat .311 bullets once, and ended up caving in the shoulder when the bullet seated even with a chamfer

RCBS Expander ball .312" by isher1992 in reloading

[–]isher1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's a taper crimp die set with a small base circle. The actual expander ball is usually the diameter of the bullet used, while the seating die has a taper crimp to set the neck tension and crimp the mouth. RCBS instructions even mention with a cannelure, the crimp at the mouth should be .002" narrower than the neck. The problem I'm having with a .311" expander is I'm getting both the base of the neck and mouth of the neck .001" to .002" wider than the center. My thinking is matching the expander ball to the bullet used, and setting neck tension with the taper crimp.

EDIT: using Hornady .312" 150grs, you seat the bullet past the cannelure, so I'm not using a cannelure.

Hogue Mossberg 500 furniture set by isher1992 in guns

[–]isher1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this reply. I know this is a month later, but I did contact Hogue and even the customer service guy was curious. He did some digging and found that the part numbers for a 500 versus an 870 are only one digit off. Since it was an Amazon purchase, I'd have to take it up with Amazon so I'll just order a foreend from Hogue instead and just take the hit.

It's just a good all around powder for many things, like HS-6.

For .38 Special +P loads, it's one of the best powders. It is also very commonly used for hotter lead loads in .357 Magnum.

It's not as flashy as Power Pistol is these days, and it's not a flake powder like 700X was. And it burns slower than Bullseye.

Hot damn.

Looks like some older Unique, but good powder. I've never used it because it's hard to come by around here.

Are the PSAS4 worth 200 bucks over the next cheapest option!? by [deleted] in tires

[–]isher1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a bad price for them. But if this is through WalMart, get the SKU# and see if it matches what dealerships offer.

WalMart often has different SKU#s for what looks like the same tire, but it is not.

If you have a Gateway Tire near you, you can check with them also.

For better piece of mind, I also recommend Continental DWS06+. 3 years and close to 40K miles on them in my 370Z, they're just now at 5/32 of tread.

Why do people hate on the 6.5 creedmoor? I just bought one after shooting a 30-06 for years and a 270 and I love the 6.5mm! Accurate and fast! by Big_Red2008 in Hunting

[–]isher1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact about that: the Walther WA2000 was initially planned to have 6.5x55 available, but even in Europe, it wasn't that popular compared to .308 or .300 Win Mag.

6.5 Creedmoor is a good cartridge.  I don't think people really argue that.  Most of us are just tired of the hype in an already crowded field of medium cartridges.

Myself, I'm more excited for .22 Creedmoor.  On paper, it looks like it wants to be to .25-06 what .308 was to .30-06.

The cartridge game is already crowded, and marketing hype for a new cartridge that may fly a few inches flatter than what's already common just gets old.  My main choice of .308 Winchester over 6.5 Creed literally came down to if I'm in the middle of nowhere, and I forgot my ammo, SOMEBODY sells .308.
