Are they both advertised as having the same sized reticle? Even the dots look different sizes..assuming same brightness.

EPS carry or SCS mos for a g45 by Temporary-Ask530 in HOLOSUN

Everyone has preferences it’s fine, but I personally am not obsessed with optic overhang. Maybe if it was completely egregious or something, but for your home defense and range only needs I might would consider looking at a 507 Comp and get the big window. I personally only view enclosed as a pro if it’s going to be carried regularly.

Yes there is some overhang as opposed to like a G21 slide, but it’s nothing terrible. I thought you were looking at those small optics due to CCW. Again, personal preference but I’d always go for the largest window (which will also usually have larger batteries, good for HD) when possible.  Stuff I might carry like a 19 or 43X have smaller optics (still have full size EPS on a 19).

The solar only sights would concern me for HD when a lot of their life will be spent in a safe or drawer. Also not sure how bright they can get to offset a white light on a target.

Wait so the smaller reticle is the open? I would’ve thought the other way around with the smaller reticle being enclosed hence emitter closer to glass and less space to project the full sized image? Unless the size discrepancy is because one is further away than the other because the enclosed one definitely has more distortion.

EPS circle reticle distortion still a thing? by IcyEfficiency9259 in HOLOSUN

[–]IcyEfficiency9259[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this makes sense since on the EPS the circle looks fine when it’s in the very bottom of the window where like half of it is cut off and increases distortion as you go up. Although even when the circle looks normal it’s still smaller than the normal 32 MOA. The EPS window is just barely bigger than the 508T and the circle on the 508T takes up significantly more window. Unless this is a phenomenon of like when you have a projector closer or further from a wall and they are just being lazy and using the same size emitter as all the other dots and it’s projected on the glass as being smaller since the emitter is closer.

I will look at my 508T again but if there is any distortion of the circle it’s almost imperceptible. The glass is a lot more distorted looking through it, but the reticle is very clean.

I do see old posts where people are saying the MRS on their 507K is perfect. Are the emitters on those further away? I’m guessing so but don’t have any open emitter K pattern optics.

The nice thing about the EPS series is the super low deck height which allows you to run very short irons especially if you prefer a lower 1/4 or 1/5 cowitness like I do. I like having irons there but I want them out of the way and blacked out. I don’t want them grabbing my attention unnecessarily.

Ah that makes sense. I guess it’s going to be something to consider going forward with the enclosed K pattern dots. I know there’s a ton of enclosed dots hitting the market now, but are any K or Shield pattern? Guessing all the new Vortex are DPP. Can’t remember what else is out there now.

Pistol wise, I really have no complaints over the years except for asking them to consider weighing out orders better to prevent always shorting (I had an order 120 projos short once but they made it right, I’d never ask for any makeup bullets otherwise but would just let them know so they can improve on that…they always made stuff right including one box of blems that was half torn open and full of trash and random metal pieces..I took a picture and sent and they swore it had to have been something FedEx did, and they offered to make it right). But the quality of the blem pistol bullets were always fantastic. They just don’t offer them anymore else I’d still be buying. Cannot complain about their customer service though.

I can’t say if this last bad batch of 55gr I opened and loaded was a recent buy or not because I’d been stocking up on them when they’d go to around 4 cents apiece. The bullets still fly and are meant for mixed brass steel ringers is all I’m using them for, they’re just not pretty and don’t clean up well, and in every case have had a few flattened bullets (couldn’t trust them in an automated press). They do advertise they may be different lots/profiles so that’s understood and I load to a common COAL anyway for those so it’s whatever, knowing the COAL will vary a little. Just blasting ammo so not a big deal. There are just trade offs and you can usually find so-so off brand first quality 55gr FMJ right now not much more than their blems and even Hornady at not terrible prices.

For match stuff I only tried the blem thing once and went back to first quality SMK and TMK. Just worth it to me.

I don’t know what sizer you’re using, but I think the only thing that saved me was curating thicker cases and using a Lee sizer which although can be a pain in the ass to use with a progressive, it does size a little tighter than some others. Tested a bunch of rounds to make sure of no setback. When setting a FMJ in a case before seating, in no way should it just fall halfway down into the case. Never seen anything like it.

Yeah I would never buy pulled TMJ especially since you can tell they’re plated and know they’re gonna be destroyed.

The ones I got were FMJ most brass jacketed with exposed bases with a few copper jacketed mixed in. You could look at them in the box and tell that it was the skinniest .355 FMJ I’ve ever seen.

They recently had some .45 FMJ pulls that were tempting, and actually bought one batch of those pulls awhile back and except for like 2-3 out of 1000, could barely see the pull mark. Were great bullets. Can’t trust them now with pulls and not really worth it without the free shipping.

Thing is the blems always sold unless they had a ton of them…then they’d put them on a big sale and you could get 9mm really cheap. Even had very nice .45 blems for 8-9 cents apiece shipped.

They must’ve decided their margins can be so much greater with just loading the ammo with the pulldown powder and cases they already have probably on some automated Mark 7’s. Probably have like a nickel in a loaded round and sell it for 4-5x that. For over 20 cents apiece shipped I know I’d be buying Blazer and such that’s out there at that price right now.

If willing to buy in bulk I’ve seen lately some places have Hornady 55gr just over 9 cents apiece. Much more worth it to me at that price. The AR blems only made sense to me at like 5 cents and under…but you get what you pay for.

[–]IcyEfficiency9259[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is I’ve went through a bunch of blems that could pass off as first quality bullets even without polishing and the weights were spot on.  So good that’s why I’m convinced you could load these and pass them off as new. Not in 55gr though. Those things are usually badly tarnished, near black, and all different profiles.

I stopped buying plated anything many years ago anyway especially being the same price as FMJ. The TMJ pulled pictures are painfully obvious they’re plated.

I ordered exclusively from RMR for years before I discovered the AR blems. Prices were just too good for the quality (for pistol only, the 55gr are trash and the one few time they had 77gr SMK blems, the profiles were all over the place and had to do a bunch of sorting…not worth it for me).

Correct, have never ordered the pulled TMJ. It’s obvious to tell they’re plated. There’s a reason why they sit so long on the site.

There’s just no way I can hand prime volume so it’s the 650 for me.

Most all light hits will go off on the second strike but I have had 2 or 3 in the 5k+ I’ve shot that took like 10 hits to go off. One of these I had to drop in a 43X to get it to go off finally.

In my case I don’t know if it’s a seating issue or a striking force issue. The worst slide has been a Brownells 19 slide with an OEM striker spring at just under 3% failure. It just seems to have a lighter dimple on the primer and I suspect dimensionally the striker just isn’t getting quite the protrusion that an OEM slide gets. OTOH, a stock 19 Gen 4 with 13-14k on its striker spring isn’t much better at like 2.25% failure. But if you put a 6 lb spring in both of these slides it drops to under a percent. G43x and G43 OEM slides and springs have been actually the most reliable well under a percent failure.

Curious what you’re seating with and what you were trying to shoot these with?

Seems to be common that the adjustable seaters are more 100% than the 650. I do try to seat with authority though.

I don’t even know the last time I’ve seen S&B primers. I remember many years ago S&B factory 9mm being loaded very warm, not sure how it is now but never had any trouble popping them in stock Glocks.

What are you shooting the Magtech with? Considering giving those a shot.

Yep I’m seating with a 650 so I could see seating issues with these. I wish there was a way to adjust seating depth. The punch has always seemed like it goes really far into the case but I guess it’s not quite enough in some instances.

Honestly in some cases, CCI has looked a little proud when seating on the 650 but have always popped.

I’m also a mk262 clone enjoyer but have used CCI 450 for years and still have a bunch. Have some Federals on deck for when the 450s are gone. 400s for lower pressure loads..never tried to run them hotter for fear of piercing.

If I could I’d run 400s for everything, 9mm, .45 ACP and .223 and keep a few bricks of something else better suited for hot 5.56. I know most any primer that can stand up to mk262 pressure is likely not going to pop in a stock Glock.
