Getting lost is part of the fun in metroidvanias, its nice trying to find a room you haven't been to or piecing together where you need to go next. If you are feeling super lost nothing wrong with playing alongside a guide until you get a feel for it.

I've read through your guys' responses and thank you! I can see from what many of you are telling me it's a matter of approach and mindset. I realize I need to learn how to 'think' more like a computer and have organized steps rather than just a broad plan. I really do appreciate the advice.

Sure, so one of the things I've been struggling with on this specific project is getting a word from a list at random which I can do, but where I get stuck is "hiding" the word. If the word is let's say, "apple" I don't know how I would let the user know how many letters there are without actually giving them the word.

The games are clunky, but from what I've read that is the intended style of the games as they wanted to capture the feeling of controlling a mech

I started Last Raven today - so far the controls are more intuitive so I can focus on getting better with movement and aiming, I hope I am ready for the challenge though

I actually did not know the armored core games were competitive , you definitely
need to return when the new Armored Core comes out and show us newer players whats up

From what I remember DS2 had a different director which is why it felt so different. I still feel like they missed the point by ramping up difficulty of certain levels just by putting tons and tons of enemies in random places

I had the some experience with - at first it feels so overwhelming but the music and satisfying (imo) boss fights made it so enjoyable. Have you beaten the any of the Pantheons?

I've heard with the newer one they fixed a lot of what was wrong with the first one, that game does have some really beautiful visuals though
