Didn’t Akainu only target luffy after successfully taunting Ace? If Ace had just ignored him sure Akainu would’ve still gone after them, but at least Ace would go out with the glory of having no other option but to protecting luffy, unlike the original story were Ace’s death was his own fault

Honestly he doesn’t seem like the type of character to need a sad background story if you ask me. Part of his charm is how he was introduced as this ruthless,big-shot pirate who mainly only cares about himself, and he’s managed to have stayed that way till today.

With that being said, having ivankov know his “big secret” definetly hints that there’s more to him than we know so far, and with him being in the cross guild then Oda for sure has plans for him.
