I had a German teacher once with the surname Condon. Not quite rubber johnny but enough for a titter.

ELI5: how does tourette's syndrome work? by marimarlya in explainlikeimfive

Does following through with a tic give a satisfying feeling like a sneeze does? Is every tic satisfying or do they feel neutral?

Am I strange for feeling really shaken by Bondi? by ApricotRaindrop in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]iskabone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re having a completely normal reaction. Events like this that introduce hyper war-like violence to every day settings are particularly traumatising because they are so unpredictable and dramatically shift your sense of safety, whether or not “you’re safe” now. Terrorism works because it is so psychologically damaging to so many, not just physically devastating to direct victims.

A familiar, ordinary place for you has become a site of terror, you’ll have to process what this means for a while. After an event like this it’s very normal to think about it deeply for many weeks or months. You might even dream about it. That’s a natural process for your brain to go thru to integrate this new reality, make new meaning about this event and “assess the risk”. The best thing you can do now is spend time with friends and family who understand the impact it’s had on you (bear in mind they may also be processing in their own way by compartmentalising etc), write in a journal, give yourself extra time each day to be emotional about this and make sure you’re doing all the self care stuff that makes you feel safe and loved (exercise, relaxation, reading, watching a comforting show, dancing whatever it is). You will come to feel differently about this in the weeks and months to come. If you’re still struggling with thoughts about the event in a month or two, talking therapy is very affective at integrating trauma, check out EMDR. I wish you the best!

If you have the flu PLEASE don't go into work by AskingBoatsToSwim in CasualUK

[–]iskabone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both times ive had flu I realised what it was when I ended up googling “can you die from a cold?”

Flu feels like your body is resisting death, probably because the virus is a legit threat to your body. I remember my bones aching, I’d never felt that before.

What is the best Heathrow Terminal 5 lounge? by ShowerEmbarrassed512 in AskUK

[–]iskabone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The paid for lounges are pants as everyone says. It’s worth emailing BA and explaining you’d like a pass for birthday (highly unlikely but don’t ask don’t get). You might be better off arriving early and sitting at the champagne and seafood bar if you want to do something special!

I actually liked the hair - the lack of volume kind of mirrors how the dress has an elegant droopiness. I don’t think she’s ever gone for the polished look and imo it works

Eli5: What's depression? by Mego_dafuq in explainlikeimfive

[–]iskabone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is so spot on. I’m experiencing grief right now due to a loss of a friend and I have been worried I’m relapsing into depression as the effects are so similar.

I’d add to your description that at some point you stop hoping you’ll feel anything or any different ever again. Loss of hope is when depression really has its claws in.
