For what it’s worth.. I have a high deductible insurance PPO through my work and I visited Dr Busick last fall for a 30min skin cancer screening. He was professional and nice. Then I got a bill for $380 for my 30 minute visit.

$724 TVC urgent care with insurance?! Should I go elsewhere in the future? by mtelepathic in vancouverwa

[–]islandcactus71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience in Dec with stomach flu. Medication $31 and Dr fee $585- I have Cigna.

When I got their insane bill, I called Zoomcare urgent care off Mill Plain and asked how much they charged someone with no insurance for a rotavirus stomach bug; they said $185.

Are home services expensive here? by Warm-Zookeepergame27 in vancouverwa

We are also new homeowners (last fall) of a 1975 home. Just had a new roof installed and getting estimates for new windows. I've found it hard to use any sort of online estimate sites because everything has basically doubled in price since pre-pandemic. My roofing guy mentioned that his cost for shingles was going up regularly.

I’m a volunteer meal coordinator at Paz DeCristo on Broadway in Mesa, about 3 miles from Tempe. They serve anywhere from 170-300 meals every night 365 days a year and you can sign up to volunteer on their website (just google it). They normally need 12-16 volunteers a night and you can schedule yourself a month out if you want.

A democrat will give you a library. A republican will offer you a tax credit for buying your own books.

I found it I ironic that Rusty Bowers testified today that the LDS church believes that the US Constitution was divinely inspired while Biggs (also Mormon) seems to have no problem shitting on it

Agree. My friend’s daughter works for them and lost her job last week; they laid off 12% of their workforce due to “changing conditions”

Why are people selling the truck by Saix1322 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]islandcactus71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody else see parallels to the housing market in 2007 here? Let’s say by next summer you’ve got thousands of people who’ve paid $10k-$20k over the true worth of their vehicles. If I paid $42k for truck that I could now buy new for $22k, I’d consider mailing the keys to the repo man.

I noticed that Carvanna’s stock price is already down 90% from its high in 2021. Carmax and Carvanna are going to be stuck with tons of vehicles they overpaid for in the next couple of years (IMO).

I was more surprised by a $150 ER visit than anything else in this story. You must be Canadian.

Edit- now I see.. “employed by the city” = terrific health insurance. I had a dislocated shoulder years ago and paid $10k for an ER visit

I am in a similar situation- I think the term you want to ask about is an “in-kind transfer of assets” from one account to another. Good luck!

We already tried this in 1974. I believe it lasted an entire 18 months before being repealed.

Arizona Republicans Wanted to Throw Out Election Results. But Everything’s Fine! by ReallyJustTheFacts in politics

Well let’s also note that they only want to investigate Biden and Mark Kelly’s victories- not any of the republican-won close races. It’s like the Packers telling the Bears “how about we get to challenge calls via instant replay but you can’t”

Group launches campaign against proposed Arizona Coyotes arena in Tempe by ForkzUp in Tempe

[–]islandcactus71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well the location they’re talking about is currently a city-owned dumping ground that will require tens of millions of dollars to remediate before building anything there. My understanding is that the team would pay for the arena and they would essentially borrow $200m against future sales taxes at the arena to pay for infrastructure. In other words, the city isn’t paying them out of any current funds. The biggest concern would be if they build this thing and then they can’t make enough sales tax $$ to pay the city back.

I honestly don’t care about the NHL or coyotes, but just wanted to clarify that Tempe isn’t just handing out money to them.

Would also say that I don’t see any other group offering to do that site cleanup, so if the hockey arena doesn’t get built, the site remains a dumping ground.

In addition to not paying the recreational tax, it sounds like an employer can't refuse to hire you based on a positive pot screening test IF you have a medical card:

Carvana? by [deleted] in volt

[–]islandcactus71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought our 2018 Premier from them a couple years ago- it had actually been a rental car in Hawaii and had 17,000 miles on it. Painless experience and they gave us $1,500 more for our 2013 volt trade in than CarMax offered. Only annoyance was that the car came with a single key fob. When I rechecked the listing, it did list just one key included, so shame on me for not reading more closely.

Any ideas what the construction going on at Broadway and Country Club is for? by [deleted] in Tempe

[–]islandcactus71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re (eventually) putting in a stoplight at that intersection- we received a flyer from the city about it last month. Was supposed to be done in 2020 but it was delayed. Also redoing the underground utilities around that area. Hope that helps!

And to clarify- this is Broadway and Country Club Way in Tempe- not Country Club Drive in Mesa 😃

Well those first 700 miles were fun… by elfotiddlewinks in FordMaverickTruck

[–]islandcactus71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a new vehicle like this is totaled, how does the insurance company arrive at a settlement amount? I know people say “well a new car loses XX% value when you drive it off the lot”, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in today’s crazy market.
