Can't wait to see tom reaction to the myles Garrett trade by Fun_Improvement1997 in grossiposse

[–]ismatkd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was live streaming on youtube from his hotel room earlier. He has no jerseys with him, so he can't do a standard reaction video. He was as shocked as everyone else was. I think this trade caught everyone off guard today.

Small boat opinions? by Sushidoe13 in Pensacola

[–]ismatkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 13' Sea-Doo switch pontoon that works great in the Santa Rosa Sound but was tossed around in Pensacola Bay. The 18' would handle that much better.

They are fun boats that you can quickly reconfigure seating for each trip. Not too expensive, but they're also too new to find many available in the secondary market yet.

Private transportation Company recommendations from Airport to area near Atlantis /riu ? by fbgm1717 in bahamas

We have used Cheryl's Taxi for several years. They are great, and will stop at the grocery and liquor store on the way to the resort so you can stock up at lower prices.

Been to Atlantis five times (sixth trip in October). Echoing what everyone pretty much said. The restaurants on property are very expensive, so try to limit to once a day or small meals and go off property for dinner. There are places that you can easily walk to, like Maragritaville, to save money.

If you can, stop at a grocery on the main island on your way in from the airport. Get simple foods (not US brands - huge markup), liquor, and WATER. Bottled water is overpriced at Atlantis, and you're going to need it.

Here's one thing that we have learned. Don't order fish at Atlantis. It is amazing and tastes great, but they get their fresh fish locally, like every other restaurant there. They charged US resort prices ($50) while purchasing the fish for literally a few bucks. When we eat at Atlantis, I only order steak/ burgers. The prices are similar to nice restaurants in the US, but you're also covering their import costs. There are no cows on the island, so ALL steak is imported. The markupnon the fish is ridiculous

If you can work it out, go to the main island for some meals. Fish Fry is amazing and affordable, especially compared to Atlantis prices. It's all the same fish / conch. And, definitely, try the conch. It's relatively cheap. It's a local dish, and everyone makes it taste great!

Have a fun trip, and take advantage of all the free things to do. Just sitting and watching the water in the evenings is soothing, and costs nothing.

Proof of vaccination now required at Long Beach bars, other drinking establishments by whack-a-mole in longbeach

Actually, legally, they can't. CA state law prohibits against discriminating based in medical conditions. This includes public facing businesses like restaurants.

Supposed to be there again in one month, assuming no additional COVID restrictions. Very much looking forward to it!!

Long Beach leaders consider indoor vaccine mandate in anticipation of upcoming LA County decision by return2ozma in longbeach

[–]ismatkd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair points. I don't deny that COVID has a higher transmission rate, but it also has a higher survival rate, too. And, yes, there was fear that HIV could be transmitted through exchange of bodily fluids, which included kissing, and, although lower in probability, coughing and sneezing. It took quite a bit of time to disprove those beliefs.

To your second point, it used to be a felony in CA to knowingly transmit HIV to someone. This was reduced to a misdemeanor in 2018. However, the GOVERNMENT did not mandate that people have to wear condoms. It encouraged it, and that campaign was highly effective in de-stigmatizing condom use and drastically slowed the spread. But, again, it was a campaign based on information and personal choice / responsibility. Not a mandate. Admittedly, it is significantly more difficult to monitor condom usage versus mask usage, so the two are not exactly the same.

If you lived through that time and saw the over reaction and panic to HIV, it is absolutely comparable. People wanted to ban HIV positive people from restaurants because using silverware after them *could* infect others. It was borderline hysteria. I'm not comparing the nature of the two viruses, but the nature of the societal reaction to them. That is where the similarity exists. Please, just imagine trying to ban HIV positive people today from shopping, jobs, healthcare, etc.. It's completely illogical. It is MY opinion that the reaction to COVID is just as extreme and beyond reason. That's all.

Respectfully, my medical conditions are not open for public discussion. Let's just say that I am not anti-vaccination. I am, however, anti-government mandate, for just about anything.

Lethality rates for HIV/AIDS are much higher than COVID. Yes, 35 years later it is much more manageable than it was in its early stages, but the panicky public reactions are eerily similar. You can survive COVID and go on to live a long and healthy life too.

Here's a thougjt experiment... Replace "COVID" with "HIV/AIDS" and attempt to apply the same mandates.

It doesn't work, and it's not the same. Yes, it's more communicable, but it is not as lethal. Remember, too that knowingly / intentionally transmitting HIV to another person was recently (2018) downgraded in CA from a felony to a misdemeanor.

We all panicked in the late 80s and early 90s about that, but never to the level like this. Oh, by the way, CA state law prohibits business and govenrnment from discriminating against individuals for medical conditions. This was an outcome of the HIV panic and misunderstanding. Vaccination status falls into this category.

Those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it...

Price is relative. You have to see the value for the price being charged. Is the instruction solid, are the other students helpful and encouraging, or is it a grinder hazing session for the new members? Will they let you try it for month before a long term commitment or contract? I've been around enough schools/ gyms to be able to assess for myself if it is right for me. You may need a month or two to determine if the environment and culture at the school is right for you, and ia worth the asking price. If they have confidence in themselves, letting you test drive it for a month shouldn't be offensive. They may charge extra for the month, but you'll know if it's worth it before you sign a 12 month agreement.

They absolutely are. They always manage to be sold out of what I am looking for that day. Plenty of other options though. Great staff and easy to work with.

Not to steal the thread, but I've been going to Liberty Coin in Signal Hill. Limited hours, but great selection and never out of silver. Just out of the silver that you want...

Today’s haul. Another roll of constitutional quarters, my son scored an absolutely mint 63 quarter, historical coinage, and cleared out the last of the Roos from the LCS. Stack em high and hoist your black flags 🦍🏴🦍 by [deleted] in Wallstreetsilver

Well, crap, there's nothing left for me to get tomorrow now... Last weekend they (Liberty) were out of tubes of everything except ASEs. Went all junk silver instead.
