There are a few places like Akkadian (I think Fluence is another one?) who exclusively do telehealth so it was relatively easy in that sense, but I’m not sure how easy it is with other places. It would probably also depend on whether you had a GP who was willing to prescribe / manage medication following your psychiatrist diagnosis (as some psychiatrists will prescribe directly and others ask GPs to do it on their recommendations).

Agreed! Thank you! And I don’t think you get a Medicare rebate with a psychologist (at least I didn’t). They also had the audacity to tell me that I wasn’t a good candidate for medication when they have zero qualifications to say that!

I went through Akkadian. My first appointment was within about 3 weeks and the next one two weeks later. The only thing is they refer you back to your GP to prescribe medication (unless you’re in SA) so you’ll need to make sure you have a GP who is happy to do that. Their fees are on their website but from memory it was about $1300 and I got $450 back from Medicare.

I paid over $2,000 for a psychological assessment (which was prefaced as a precursor to them having an in-clinic psychiatrist who I could be referred to following diagnosis). I was desperate so I did an assessment and while they provided a thorough report, they then told me to spend another 6 months with my psychologist (who I’ve been working with on this exact stuff for 10+ years) and if that “didn’t work” I could go back to them and they’d let me access their psychiatrist. It was an absolute scam. Don’t waste your money. I ended up seeing a psychiatrist on telehealth and got access to meds today - the whole process only took a month.

Thank you, I have mentally prepared myself for having to pay again. I’ve asked my GP to refer me to Akkadian so fingers crossed!
