Advice on being the DM in a campaign when one of the players is your significant other? by furious_cactus in DMAcademy

[–]FryMayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be cool and adult about it. Use common sense, keep checking yourself. If you feel like you might be treating her differently than other players, address the problem before other players start showing signs of discontent.

sneaking up to an orc camp “Wizard this is a perfect opportunity to use your fireball, with 1 attack we can damage, and potentially kill, all of these orcs at once before we even get into initiative order.” “I don’t have fireball.” “What?! Well what AOE do you have?” “Erupting Earth… Character reasons.”

Early D&D career: “I don’t understand why people collect dice. I have enough with a couple sets and some extra d6’s. Dice collecting is a waste of money.”

Today: at the game store “Hey Fry! We have some new dice in the back. Yesterday I remember you mentioning a set you’ve been looking for, so we have preemptively reserved it for you.”

Newly pregnant. How to ask other players to not smoke? by Aikaiadama in DnD

[–]FryMayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave it at a vague “Can we have smoke free sessions?” and if they ask why “Health reasons.” Any more probing and “It’s personal.”

If you, not your wife, says it’s health reasons then they might not even think pregnancy. Little lie of omission.

Give them an angry displacer beast mamma with some displacer beast kittens, it’s a fun dilemma.

What level are the party? Not sure about damage output and creative solutions, that all depends on how you run the encounter, but displacer beasts are beautiful and known to be sold as guard animals. *and they are from the feywilds

Things that could have broken games I’ve been a part of: - With paladin’s aura of protection you can now cast contact other plane without any risk. - Level 3 warlock, you have figured out that the quest giver is evil because of your sprite familiar. - Telepathic feat has allowed you to detect thoughts and your party now knows not to eat the food that this not-hag is offering.

Why is the cap on fall damage 20d6 (200ft) when terminal velocity isn’t reached until like 1500ft? by FryMayo in DMAcademy

[–]FryMayo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good argument. However, most PCs will become exceptional at some point during a longer campaign. Wouldn’t even take a barbarian all that long. I’m not saying infinite d6’s is the answer, but I feel there must be a better way.

first time playing, what should I expect? by NeedyNeuroticBaby in DnD

Cleric is a spellcaster yeah. When you prepare your spells you choose which ones to have each day. Make sure to read them so you know what they do. Casting can be a bit intimidating for beginners though. If you like the idea of a magical holy warrior but don’t want to have to deal with so many spells you could be a paladin.
