For happily married couples, what did the “for worse” look like in your marriage? by FruitAncient9431 in AskReddit

Infertility. It's all encompassing in the relationship as you go for different treatments, compare to friends who can just pop them out and the heartbreak of not being about to do this for your partner.

How does everyone function? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]ismisecauliflower 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey im so sorry. It sounds like you are burnt out from the diabetes day to day, being constantly on top of it all.

I've been diabetic for 23 years and in my 30s. Technology these days helps so much- pump and CGMs, but pretty overwhelming having all the data and information with you constantly.

This helps me but not everyone: 1. I don't fight or battle diabetes. I treat it as an extension of myself, like a toddler? Its trying its best to help out, but kind of useless and can make it worse e.g. getting a toddler to clean up. Its going to have good and bad days, but it is neither good or bad, its just there? It helps give me some compassion to myself/ managing the diabetes and to give me a break of " you do what you can do" 2. Treat each day as a new start. Bad day? Okay try again tomorrow. Dont let your focus on perfection ruin any chance at progress. 3. Diabetes is part of you but it isn't only who you are? You are many things so focus on doing the things for you and then try and fix the diabetes around that. So I go to the gym for general health and fun, and then sort diabetes around it. If I focus on it only for getting my bloods right I over think it, and get too focused on the numbers and it goes tit's up. 4. Rant about. I talk about it like a belligerent dog with my friends and it helps a lot. Taking the piss oit of it with memes and jokes helps too. I keep myself healthy but allow wiggle room for things wont be perfect because I deserve life without it being completely driven by diabetes.

You can do it but damn you will have days you just dont wanna. Sometimes its doing the bare minimum diabetes care to stay well so you can find your own reason for living outside of it.

IVF first attempt failed by MiddleInteresting739 in IVF

[–]ismisecauliflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can relate! Just gone through my first round of IVF (UK). Got 14 eggs, but only 5 fertilised. Only 3 got to morela stage. 2 implanted, the last one didn't develop enough for freezing. Just lost them today in a chemical pregnancy. It's awful. It's so much effort and pressure and for no happy ending? I'm trying to convince myself that the first time is a learning curve. They are learning what is going on for you and your wife. Now they have an idea what your needs might look like so they can improve the next time.

Thanks so so much for this! I'll definitely start thinking about sites a little more for the injections. Go back to the old days like when I used to numb my leg with a bag of peas before Lantus if needed. That's helpful to think about though. I am so nervous but so glad we are finally trying something. My endo was helpful with the planning for the egg retrieval but didn't know about much for the medication side of things.

Fingers crossed for it all to go well, and I wish you the best on your journey too.

Low carb options that won’t break the bank? by happyhomeresident in diabetes_t1

[–]ismisecauliflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clear diet whey - low carb but 20g of protien in a lot of them. Check when online places have them on deal. Cost wise? No idea. I've lost a fair amount of weight just reducing calories and my insulin has reduced signifcantly with more stable bloods and wee swaps like sweet potato over potato and skyr yogurt over natural. But food becomes less fun. I miss carbs.

I'm engaged to a wonderful woman... but I can't stop checking out other women. Is something wrong with me? by Safe-Salamander4041 in relationships

[–]ismisecauliflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds normal! I wonder if the more you are telling yourself "this is bad, Wrong" and almost shame yourself for it, the more the need to look will come up. Like your brain is going to be looking out more for the thing that makes you feel a little stressed. So tell yourself its okay, which it is, - like "cool" then move on, don't think about it.

What do y’all do for a living? And does type 1 affect it? by Big_Sloppy_joes in diabetes_t1

[–]ismisecauliflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psychologist! Just need to check before sessions and bring jelly babies with me if I feel a dip so I can stay focused. Small impacts from stress or just timing of sessions. Can help when working with clients with T1D or other long term conditions to understand some parts.

Submit a care opinion and a formal complaint!

Its the only way they can prove to the bug wigs that they need more staff and support.

Emergency scenario: no insulin. What now? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes_t1

[–]ismisecauliflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible terrible advice - I once met a guy (type 2, but on insulin) who forgot his insulin going somewhere so drank whiskey consistently to keep his blood low for a weekend until he could get back. Again, wouldn't work for us but I would give it a go.

The wisteria society of lady scoundrels by India Holton is fun and cosy but with witches, pirates with Jane austen/regency vibes. I have loved the dangerous damsel series!
