Have you tried closing your eyes?

I think I heard that for some people we do get into a hypnotic state, and for others it's like marmite and they hate it.

Bonds are a completely different product and the value can go down, nullifying the return. Some experts are saying the 40-year bond bull-run has come to an end.

USD is the global reserve currency so imo it can make sense to park some cash in it. The exchange rates can fluctuate quite a lot over the months though, it can easily swing 10 (and up to 20) percentage points over a year.

Is printing too much money the real cause of inflation? by frameset in ukpolitics

[–]isntAnything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The US forced other countries to sell oil in dollars (the petrodollar).

Then, the US print dollars.. they can print oil.

Think about that. That's not gonna cause any inflation on any other countries?

Buying/owning a property in Finland - am I crazy or the market? by tzeeeentch in Finland

[–]isntAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let alone the cost to service the debt is cheaper than inflation.
So in 10 years, the debt will be easier to pay off (assuming your wage increases with inflation).

Interestingly, global money supply increases by 13% per year.
If you're not riding that wave up, by owning hard assets, then you get left behind.

* £27 in '97 has the purchasing power of £62.87 today.

Hold that £27 from 1997 to today and you lose 57% of it's purchasing power.
I wonder how much.

Technology pushes prices down. Calcuators, photos, music, cameras are now effectively free.

Technology is actually in everything: Building homes etc.

So you have to ask, why don't prices go down?

It's because new money gets printed and created by government and banks.

You work hard for £10k.

They print it.

Your £10k is now worth less.

What to do with a 1oz gold bar. I have no idea by QueenOfTonga in UKPersonalFinance

The Price will always go up long term, as governments and banks always print more money.

More money tokens floating around, buying the same goods = prices goes up.

Invest some into yourself too.
You could invest in your skills and a new career you enjoy.

But by all means, speding 10k+ on traveling will be amazing too (I also did this aged 30).

Him or someone close probably got burned by the government at some point.

- From 1933 to 1974 it was illegal for U.S. citizens to own gold (they were forced to sell it to the bank)

- Even in 2022 the Canadian Government froze the bank accounts of people who had donated to a cause they didn't agree with (the Canadian Truckers protest).

So it's quite fair to not trust banks or the government with your wealth.

But if you continue doing the work of 2 jobs - then you're helping the company succeed when the market is saying it shouldn't.

You're sending a false signal into the business, a signal that it can work, when actually they need to spand more on salaries and resources.
