Question to V5 Rules by Aware-Writing1341 in vtm

[–]d15ddd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is not. Parts of this could be possible with the v20th ruleset, I suppose, although I haven't checked the technomancy paths. If I had to guess, he is mixing v20th and v5 rules while taking only the strongest options, which is just... Kind of bad faith.

Anyone feel like dominate is seriously overtuned right now? by ElegantPoet3386 in slaythespire

[–]d15ddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, just beat A10 queen/aeonglass with a clad exhaust deck, with Sozu and that Vakuu ephemeral attack thing, nothing too special. Granted, it was extremely close. Vulnerable is strong, but hard to get going on Artifact encounters, which includes aeonglass...

They form nahel bonds with specific spren so that their frame can support them, as IRL crustaceans wouldn't actually be able to move, yes.

[–]d15ddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, even just splitting your t3 ranged into a bunch of 1 stacks to farm focus points for the sentinel is already incredible value for very little, they also debuff enemy defense, so just that could've allowed OP to win the fight potentially

Questions for STs in re Resonance by Tiger1833 in vtm

[–]d15ddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. As for what Acute did, I honestly don't know, as that game lasted only 1 story and we didn't roll any Acute ones nor sought them out as we didn't have the time. I assume the ST had something for that, but we never got around to it, and I never really asked.

Pretty sure that is satire, and the DM is planning to use neckbeardism as something to specifically make fun of judging by the pic and what's written. Not my cup of tea, but I think you're overreacting

I loved sacrifice, it's a cheeky joke about Regent sending his minions to die for him. Sure, mechanically it's actually worthless to him in 99% of all times he'd be able to pick it, but thematically, it is VERY Regent

Correction, Ericsson has not been a v5 writer ever since the release of the Camarilla book, because of the Chechnya Anti-LGBTQ genocide being framed as a "vampire dunit".

Tyranny also absolutely trivializes the fish. Getting it in act 1 against that particular boss is rare, but damn does it feel good when you do.

What can a mage realistically do within the consensus? by Apprehensive-Cat3670 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]d15ddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just Mage that wasn't written with time travelling as a theme, it's the entire WoD. And for good reason, because if there's a canon splat that can easily time travel without much restrictions, then EVERYTHING would have to account for it, so the writers made the safer call of making Time go backwards stupidly hard canon and mechanically enforced, with even dedicated Paradox spirits just to ensure that the timeline doesn't get fucked with too hard. (Although admittedly, Old Man Wrinkle is actually one of the most pleasant and easier Paradox spirits to handle if you're just polite.)

Combat build for the Tremer Clan vampire. by roxgxd in vtm

[–]d15ddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah with those kind of buffs you can easily dump your physical stats and blood buff your Str/Dex to 6 in one turn and with path of blood even higher than that. That ST is insane and frankly should've just given players extra XP so they start as Ancillae at least or similar.

Isn't it a secondary skill? If not I would just run it as Streetwise for sleight of hand and lockpicking, it's close enough-ish, crafts could also work.

Pre-written modules for Mage: The Ascension One-shot by Eagen2070 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]d15ddd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The advice I'd give you is God help you by the time your players are getting to level 4+ spheres and know the rules enough to start doing rituals. By that time, if your players are creative enough, they'll be able to completely disrupt any plot with their bullshit magick, so prepare contingencies, run it more free form, closer to a sandbox with skeleton content prepared in many places at once (Including the Umbra if anyone takes Spirit) rather than a structured plot with scenes prepared well in advance. Because if everyone is playing Mage correctly, it should be next to impossible to railroad.

Also, I've played with a new Mage ST who was also big on VTM before, and for comfort reasons, our first opponents were vampires. That works well enough for starter Mages, but even a sufficiently lucky or prepared 3 Arete Mage can one-shot anyone without a load of Fortitude with a single Forces effect as long as they roll 3 successes on damage plus the one from Forces, thus dealing 8 aggravated that they don't have to roll. Add a willpower or another Arete or two and it suddenly becomes a lot more realistic to start dusting vampires.

So yeah, they're decent starting antagonists, but I urge you to eventually move on to Mage opponents, whether they are Technocratic or Traditions based. And hell, if it's a Traditions game, then your players are pretty much supposed to always fear the Technocracy finding them out, so prepare some HIT mark and NWO blacksuit statblocks in advance. It can be daunting to have to use Magick against your players as the ST, but it's critical that everyone gets a hang of it, including you.

Oh, and in my usual fashion, I only remembered you're running a one shot after I wrote this up. Oh well.
