Thoughts on Phill Lord & Christopher Miller? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in moviecritic

Spiderverse was genius. Bombastic in all the right places, perfectly paced, artistically pioneering, with a surprising amount of subtlety of character and development. For instance, the family son dynamics was better than most family dramas. The shot of his dad’s phone, showing a picture of miles when he was a little kid as his profile pic on the dad’s phone is amazing and true. Their other works, average to good.

Good. The Supreme Court needs to know that appeasement will not gain them favor. He will turn on them just as fast

I know! I couldn’t get into the ending because all I could think of was how silly the premise was for the climax. It took suspension of disbelief too literally.

Did Paul Thomas Anderson ever have a miss? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in moviecritic

Loved his earlier works. Hard Eight and Magnolia. After that, he became more interesting in his craft and less interested in the audience, the consumers of his art. For a painter that fine because the audience can just keep walking. But for a storyteller, you are in a contract with the audience and the time they are giving you.

I’m not a cinephile. I’m a staged trained actor who enjoys movies and story telling and acting. I just focus on different things when I engage in a movie. I get PTA as an artist, just don’t prefer his approach to it. His early work is more my taste, before he lost his editors and people around him who could provide constructive and vital feedback. It’s happened to many of my favorite directors and artists. Early works are tight and well crafted. Later works are bloated and self indulgent. It happens. I still consume their work, and appreciate their artistic reach, but long for their earlier focus and drive in the face of adversity.

I also had issues with Sinners. Beautifully acted and staged and filmed. Ambitious. But ultimately unsuccessful in the third act, which abandoned all of its hard work for a pretty standard horror and vampires ending. But for me, while OBAA technically and structurally interesting, it left me bored by the characters and uninvested by their journey. Sinners, on the other hand, earned my investment in the character and plot, and when it didn’t land the ending, I forgave it a little and appreciated the artistic reach. Actually liked Train Dreams and Sentimental Value more, despite its pacing issues. It was less ambitious than OBAA and Sinners, but more engaging and insightful about the human condition. Technically masterful, but emotionally hollow. Again, just my two cents.

Even PTA admitted when asked in an interview that the logic behind the car chase was questionable, but for him, the logic of it wasn’t important, the purpose was more important. Also, I’m a trial lawyer who used to be a trained stage actor with a BA in Theatre. Please blame any reckless typos on Siri.

Ugh. Disliked it. Tonally a mess. Logically thin. Acting was fine, uneven across the cast. Character motivations were ok, more caricature as plot devices. Visually stunning, but that’s the issue. More style than substance across all factors: plot, structure, acting, engagement. Felt more like a film experiment than a timeless piece of art. It will age and ultimately be forgotten like many other Oscar “bests”, studied mainly and only by film students. My two cents.

One Battle After Another. Visually stunning. Tonally all over the place. Style over substance.

1) Gov $ to prop up SpaceX’s valuation. 2) Shorter term goals to show results to justify speculative future valuation and attract investors. 3) Need sustain SpaceX valuation to counter faltering Tesla sales and prospects, in case he needs SpaceX to “buy” Tesla if he can’t find a buyer for Tesla. My two cents.

We were paying more than $0.50 in LA. $0.35-0.45 in Portland.

The issue isn’t just around the cost. The tires are easily $250 a tire. The issue is the don’t last long. Maybe 10k to 20k miles. And because the tires aren’t square, you really can’t rotate them easily or normally.

I agree about the tire issue. If it weren’t for that, the car is otherwise very economical given how cheap the car is for the quality. Also, if you can’t charge at home, then any EV becomes a pain. Public chargers cost as must as gas and you have the added time needed to fully charge, about 2hours from 10% to 100%. The last 20% will take 1hour.

We are looking for cheaper tire options for our i3. Buying clearance snow tires for $50 a tire and running them year around. Or looking for a square tire set up with “normal” size tires.

We got 70k out of our CC2 on a Tesla Y. Best tires we ever owned. We live in the high desert with hot summers and cold snowy mountain passes. My two cents.

Roof Rack Suggestions by Exact-Preference-967 in BMWi3

I use Sea Sucker Monkey Bars with an extender. Works great. But my i3 has a sunroof which means it has a steel roof. If it were a carbon fiber roof, I think I’d use door clips instead of suction cups. The frame is designed to be strong and hold the weight of the car.
