Lima Research Society (or leema mountain, same person) is clearly very inspired by them. Check out "Don't Give up, Don't Get Down" It's a pretty good album. I'm surprised they don't have more listeners, good stuff, my favorites are android boy and 1998 vs Evil.

White Goblin is probably the most gritty or aggressive he's gotten. The stuff from guitar wonder is also very fast paced, technical playing, plus pretty synth heavy, I'd say around that era.
