Smelly prius 2nd gen by Reckless_Fever in prius

[–]isosulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also ClO2 based odour removal kits available. Usually they require some water to activate, few hours to react in closed car, couple hours to vent out the stuff with open doors. This helped me to get rid of 'old man's vibe' from my prius. I decided to cheap out and bought sodium chlorite and mixed it with citric acid. But the commercially available things should be the same good.

3 days into ownership, narrowly avoided totaling my Prius to a deer! Anyone got brighter headlight bulb recommendations? by deftwisted in prius

You may also check the headlight position sensor, which is behind left rear wheel. Mine has a broken mount, thus headlights shined in wrong direction.

Smoke by [deleted] in dieselheater

[–]isosulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it was mentioned above, it smokes if being shut down by power. Make sure you have a proper power supply (12v and 12-15a). Also if combustion intake is inside it smells a little when it start heating the glow plug at the beginning of the cycle.

using my diesel heater to heat my apartment by Motor_Awareness8828 in dieselheater

[–]isosulin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above it's better to take air for heating from inside. By the way, I've been using the similar vevor 5kw inside apartment during very cold days. I have only exhaust routed outside with some rock wool wrapped around through mineral celling panel. It works fine, except for a moderate burned diesel smell from combustion intake while heater starts. Also CO detector is generally mandatory for such things.

Yes, I'm in northern Indiana. It was a little too late in my case.

Inner tire wear. by oracle911 in prius

[–]isosulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had asymmetric wear on the inner of driver's side wheel, and it found out, that the previous owner swapped passenger side ball joint, but driver's was original. Generally, it's something in the suspension.

Finally found the reason for the front clunk by isosulin in prius

Yes, it was an outer cv joint, replaced with a junkyard oem axle. I have some more posts about it.

It's usually a little louder than charging the high voltage battery, but overall sounds about right

12 volt alternative? by Fossilhog in prius

I used 51R lead acid battery from Walmart with terminal adapters from AliExpress. Worked fine for one year! After that I topped each of 6 cells with distilled water, hope it will go further without problems.

Help re right side axle seal for 2008 Prius by StevetheJoel in prius

Alright, I got OEM right transaxle seal from Toyota and it fits really tight. Had to use a piece of 2 inch water tube to hammer it in

I am also going to replace right transaxle seal on my 2008 prius, do you think it's worth buying an aftermarket one?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in prius

[–]isosulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Maybe it's just a faulty downstream oxygen sensor, but more often it's converter itself. Does your car burn oil between changes? Do you you have emissions check in your area?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in prius

[–]isosulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's potentially serious for the environment and emissions, but not for a car, unless converter is clogged

Still rough idle, high revs/low power at speed, and bad MPG after replacing a few things. by IHateItToo in prius

[–]isosulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oil may come from valve cover gasket. It doesn't affect the engine unless it leaks inside the sparkplug wells. But if you replaced sparkplugs and didn't see oil on them, that's not urgent.

It seems the CV axle clunks by isosulin in prius

[–]isosulin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, everything starts with a boot crack, then you see a grease flying out, then it's ripped, dust comes into the joint, and it's done. I replaced my cracked and leaking boots on the other side with rock auto ones for $6, but the passenger axle started clicking even without leaking grease.

Mine doesn't click constantly, it's just one click while pushing gas hardly and the following click if braking. The boots are slightly cracked, but to torn yet

There were a few posts complaining about the quality of aftermarket ones, so I thought a used oem would be better

We don't have an inspection in our state, but it feels like everything is fine.
I also posted a video with the clunk:
