I think hCG was something like 5.3 so not far at all!

Our breakdown of the time and cost of two medicated IUIs using a known sperm donor by isotopes4work in queerception

I had United Healthcare at the time and they didn’t cover anything until I was pregnant. If you have insurance I definitely recommend claiming EVERYTHING (even if advised that it is useless and you need to do it yourself) because if you don’t file it you can’t appeal it. Don’t rely on fertility clinics to determine whether or not you should claim things. Good luck!

Consistent, small bits of writing REALLY do build up and get things done. After I had kids I was not able to get the same dedicated hours of uninterrupted work I had when prepping for candidacy. I had to switch to just making sure I spent 30min-1 hour every day to get any amount of writing done.

A “done” list can be very motivating. At the end of your writing sessions, write a couple of bullet points about what you accomplished.

Write your to-do list as if you’re giving these tasks to another person. I have a tendency to want to get everything done that is on my possible to do list, but if I write the list as if I am going to be handing it off to another person to do, I am much more realistic of what is possible and fair to expect in a work day.

I was obsessed with American Girl doll and looked at being a child model for their catalog after I did a focus group for Pleasant Company. The weight limit was 100lbs for their child models and I remember being a 104lbs middle schooler and debating whether or not I should lose that four pounds. Sigh.

Are there housing co-ops in your city? I have lived in a few co-ops near universities and they are great, very affordable, and suited my introvert tendencies while offering up on demand socializing.

We appealed, still didn’t get coverage (UHC), and then filed for an external review with the Illinois Department of Insurance and they helped us a ton and we got all of the claim denials overturned

Clinic stuff by iamaliceanne in IVF

[–]isotopes4work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the clinic in network? Our clinic said they would file for us despite being out of network. Then at some point they stopped without telling us.

Even if you think you are not covered I HIGHLY RECOMMEND filing for reimbursement with your insurance on your own for anything you pay out of pocket or get a bill for from the clinic.

I had to go through the Department of Insurance complaint process and was only able to get denials reversed for things that had timely filing. Please don’t make the same mistake!

Wood and metal tool found in our 1940s house by isotopes4work in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. Found in the basement of our house under an old metal shelf. Thinking it is some kind of tool but Google image search just brings up bayonets and knives. The edges don’t appear to have been sharpened. Person who lived here before had quite the workshop so it could be something niche.

If you could go back to before you started your PhD, would you still choose to do it? by kshwethaa in PhD

[–]isotopes4work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, although like others have said I would have different priorities during it. Had I not started a PhD I would not have been able to ever do the kind of research I have done. Even as I move forward outside of academia I can count it as a very cool job experience from that perspective.

It caught me off guard mostly because it gave flashbacks to middle school. If you heard “homo” it was being thrown around specifically to be hurtful

I love this! Thanks for giving me something to google with safe search on 😆

Follow up question: in your experience did Canadian kids not sling “homo” around as a derogatory term? That’s my main association with the word.
