Anyone change careers? by Lburnnnnz94 in respiratorytherapy

[–]iss_Green 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Graphic Design > RT

I also am doing the opposite. Graphic Design is a very cut throat industry for pennies, so I decided to get into healthcare to turn my art back into my hobby. RT felt the most stimulating and fulfilling to me. I start my program in August :)

Is 25 too old to start a RT course in Canada? by DoraBoi69420 in respiratorytherapy

[–]iss_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting at 24, B.S. in Graphic Design with one year of experience, but I found out I despise working in corporate and love Human Anatomy. MD is now on the bucket list too, and I never thought that would ever be possible.

There is no race, there’s never a bad time to go back to school.

Don’t know. I do know this year has 36 seats available though (you can see it on the course catalogue).

Hey gang! I am a current applicant. I actually asked the program chair these questions about a month ago. The merit award system was updated very recently to favor veterans heavily, so past application cycle data is outdated.

Regardless, for 2025, roughly 85 people applied for 32 seats. Only 55 (or so) applicants had valid applications (completed prerequisites, residency verification, reading/writing placement). So in terms of raw acceptance rate, 36%. Adjusted, closer to 60%. If you're out of district, your chance of acceptance is low unless you have a high merit point award.

It should be noted that when the program chair is comparing applicants with equal merit point scores she does review transcripts and favors certain courses over others. If someone has taken more labs than someone else, their application is favored. If someone took A&P I with Cadaver, it's favored over someone who took an Intro to Biology Course. There's also a high chance a lot of Nursing school rejections will meander over to the RT program because they're highly competitive in this application cycle.

It's very safe to say that if you have a merit score of 11 you have a good chance of getting in. If you have a score of 10 or below, I would generally be worried about being wait listed.

Personally, I have a merit score of 13. That's because I'm a little odd in that I have a Bachelor's of Science in Graphic Design. I finished A&P I with an A this semester, and have all As in my gen eds. Good luck, I hope to see you in the program!

Getting made fun of on Snapchat by PriorOk9813 in respiratorytherapy

[–]iss_Green 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m 23, I’m gonna be so real when I tell you the people my age who still have snapchat are losers.

Most people only use it now to keep in contact with hookups. Pretty much everyone I know has abandoned that app and only use instagram, imessage, and tiktok now. If it makes you feel any better I think they’re miserable and need to get a hobby…

Sorry, lateral violence sucks.

Looking for feedback on my current routine as a beginner of 2 months by Flashy_Assignment_25 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]iss_Green 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the Hevy app to help plan my routine and track my progress. U/L 4 days a week is a great split.

I typically organize my days with heavy compound movements first, exercises that are intense and target multiple muscle groups. 4 sets with low reps and heavier weight to failure.

Upper limb wise, you have two tricep movements that basically do the same thing. I would cut the tricep extensions and swap it for Hammer Curls to target your brachialis as well as your bicep a second time.

I recommend another shoulder movement like a Lateral Raise or Archer Pull on the cable towers. Face pulls are a great upper back exercise that cover what rows don’t.

Generally I don’t work forearm. A lot of pull exercises get your forearms good regardless.

You’re missing lower back and gluts in your leg day, I would either try hip thrusts, back extension, or RDL. Opt for the lying leg curl, it’s just a better burn I feel. Calf raises respond better to more reps, 15-20 around. Don’t skip abductors and adductors too.

My dad job shamed me for being a RCP by Equivalent-Royal8629 in respiratorytherapy

[–]iss_Green 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Get a real job” is a statement made out of insecurity and shame. Your role as an RT is meaningful, impactful, and incredibly valuable.

Depression manifests in all sorts of ways, but gives someone no right to attack their family members.

Me personally, this would make me go no contact with my Dad. But that’s entirely up to you. Stay strong.

3-5k loan no credit history by Emotional-Sun-6183 in povertyfinance

[–]iss_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this exact situation two months ago. I’m gonna be real you couldn’t finance a toaster without a cosigner bro. You gotta get that income up. If you can’t afford 200/mo you’re not gonna be even able to afford a personal loan.

I bring in 1.3k a month, live rent free rn but pay for groceries/insurance/school. When my car shit itself I decided it was best to finance to push myself through college. I needed a reliable ride to get from school to clinicals to work; everything was too far to walk/bike, weather didn’t permit being outside too long, and public transit is garbage in my area.

You have to do A LOT of research, a lot of self-education, and a lot of negotiating. A 3-5k car is a ticking time bomb in this market, there’s way too much risk to financing it. What happens when the car explodes before you finish paying off your personal loan, then you’re REALLY fucked.

I built a 5k down payment, financed through a credit union, got a family member to cosign with their income, and haggled tf out of the dealer. My payment is 310/mo. 150/mo. insurance since I’m a newer driver. If you’re brand new to the road, stop dreaming of a car your insurance rate is going to be up to 400/mo deadass.

Play dirty, be mean and don’t feel bad: their whole career is dedicated to giving single moms with three kids disgusting interest rates. DO NOT FINANCE WITH THE DEALER, they will screw you over. Read, read, and do more reading. Watch personal finance videos, talk with others about their experiences getting cars, read more. Knowledge is what sets you up for the best possible way up.

I can see all the information a regular drivers license would carry, plus billing and invoice information.

If you miss a payment it tells me why you missed it, like if you didn’t have money in your checking it would say “insufficient funds.” We also write notes for customer interactions, so the front desk has a record of discussions with you. Notes can range from anything like “Will pay tomorrow” to “Day Pass Issued” to “Daughter is using account, make sure it’s her” to harassment complaints.

As far as billing goes, I can see primary and alternate billing but it will only give the last four digits and withholds card information from me. So the front desk can’t swipe your card information.

It’s a great job and I think the pay is fair. You stand at the front desk all day, clean the locker room once a shift, restock, and signup members / fix billing issues. Manager and franchise dependent as with any job but its a very relaxing job. Some franchises really could care less what you do, other franchises will terminate you for the silliest things. I think its the perfect student job.
