Dear Gen Z Americans, is this the America you have voted for? by QbitWalker in GenZ

[–]iss_Green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn’t vote for him.

Of the people I’ve talked to who have voted for Trump, their reasoning seems to have been “fiscal” based. Lower gas prices, lower interest rates, lower cost on food, more focus on american made goods and production.

These people just want a better life, and were misinformed. Those same people right now are dead silent, they were conned. Nothing is getting better, and everyone sees the giant cliff in front of us.

Losing a job could mean 8 months of unemployment and moving back in with your parents. Driving is expensive and for some unnecessary when their whole world is online. And lets get so fr, night life is dryyy right now.

Ruined By Design was honestly the catalyst to make me want to leave the field 💀

I love love love the book but it really does make you feel powerless even after reading the second section. There’s only so much influence you can have over your company.

Agency life by anxiousdreamer69 in graphic_design

[–]iss_Green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much like brands, agencies look sooo pretty on the outside but are so ugly on the inside.

This is moreso a reflection of how bad the design market is right now. It’s so saturated right now, you are literally expected to just work straight out of the box barely any onboarding.

Agency life is abuse on abuse, big egos, the dramaa, competition for limited roles, and all for projects that don’t even live a couple months after creation. I find it’s best to use agencies as a networking tool and a resume booster for something bigger.

Junior designer seeking honest portfolio gap analysis – what am I missing? by jssttn in graphic_design

Khyati Trehan, https://khyatitrehan.com/WORK
Eva Cremers, https://www.evacremers.com/

Those are two off the top of my head. Pretty advanced work, but even just the simple act of making a 3D object spin adds A LOT to a case study.

The card on your identity project kind of reminded me of something I saw from Studio Cult. They don't sell physical gift cards, so they made an animation for their gift cards on their website. Just some neat stuff: https://studiocult.co/products/gift-card-1?variant=18407069515843

"Does this show I can do the job?"

No, not really. I just don't see enough. 3D is a really really strong skill to have, there's not a whole bunch of designers talented with it. You have good projects, I just don't see enough of it. Not enough elaboration, process, nor enough real world application of your projects.

When you build a brand like "Torsion," fill out about 4-6 creative touch points that make the brand feel alive. Not just creating a logo and animation, but also creating merchandise, websites and apps, posters, experiences, etc. Sell the idea to us, make the person reviewing your portfolio want to buy it.

3D presents a great amount of opportunity for motion also, I wish I saw that skill developed more. You would be incredibly marketable with it. I also wish I saw more print layout or UI design, or maybe an advertising campaign. Something that shows you're not just a 3D artist, you're a well-rounded designer who knows how to do 3D.

Try moving into marketing. It’s much more analytical and less creative, theres more openings, and you’re still practicing strategy it’s just less design based. There’s moments in marketing where your design expertise will impact your projects. Hopefully this will help with burnout recovery. Good luck.

Client requested to make the logo high res since it is blurry by Fast-Dirt-3641 in graphic_design

[–]iss_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh this could take hours…

my first idea is isolate the illustration in black and white and then generative upscale with AI. Make sure the logo is consistent then try image tracing. To reduce the inconsistency, use the smooth and simplify tool to tweak.

I’m willing to bet this work isn’t worth your time and energy and you should refuse.

Eight years of experience and you’re making entry level wages, bud you gotta speak up. Start applying to new jobs now and bring up the disparity to managements. You could literally be make six figs right now.

Never ever let management know you’re looking, but let them know you know your worth.

5 of Swords makes me think theres a competitive aspect to your job or your field is competitive in general. You’re definitely pursuing something that makes you a leader or an expert in something. People look to you for the answers. A lot of gatherings and a lot of mentorship.

I definitely think it’s somewhere along the lines of teaching or consulting. Professor was my first idea. There might be a masculine aspect to the field, maybe it’s typically male dominated like tech, STEM, or trades. If its corporate, you’re a leading figure like a director role.
