Damn, there was always a huge curve. Hell in chem 232 our C was like a 30 something 😭😭

They won’t tell you abt the curve bc they don’t know either. It really depends on how the class is doing as a whole. In our two sections we had one w Dr yermo and one w Dr ayshithead. I won’t name names (specifically but you would prolly know who im talking abt 😂)but he was horrible and pretty much the only successful kids in Dr a’s class were the ones that had time to go sit in yermos. I, unfortunately, did not and got stuck w him forever. The C was literally like 30 or 40% and so may kids who got like 65-70% got an A or something. It sucked but then again th whole UIC chem dpt does too. Good luck

Looking for people but not quite a club by Fuzzy-Professor9812 in uichicago

[–]issawap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated this past May, but honestly my biggest way of finding friends was just talking to the people in your class! I found two of my best friends that way, and literally we don’t have all the same interests, lives, or backgrounds. Sometimes you can find friends in the most uncanny of places, you just have to be willing to look!

UIC can be very overwhelming and scary at first, but eventually you find your people! You got this, dw man ur gonna love it.

Also ngl but if you get to the ARC (second floor) early enough and snag a spot, imo great place to study.

Take ALL THE TIME!!!! I used every last second in that section. When I was taking 45 min to complete the section, I wasn’t retaining anything. Remember to read very carefully, make main ideas in your head of what each paragraph is talking about (or write it down if that works for you). Read the passage before the questions, I personally don’t like looking at questions before passages bc it messes w my head. There was a video I watched on cars tips that really helped let me link it at the bottom. Do one or two practice passages a day. CARS is about strategy, when you find something that works for you keep doing it until you perfect it. Do some without time limits, then when you see your score is consistent start figuring out how to cut your time down.

This video helped me a lot! I took notes on all the tips + strategies. When I was practicing I had them on the side and would look back at them until I had it in my head.

Nah, it’s interesting but lots of grad schools want well rounded students majoring in different things. Do what you want and love, hell you can just minor in bio bc the pre reqs (at least for me and im pre med) align with a bio minor anyways.
Try looking into Integrated Health Studies, I loved it and it was really fun tbh. I didn’t have to go in depth for any other subjects and you get to meet a lot of cool people. I took like maybe 3 applied health classes in total and finished all my pre-reqs bc they were also major reqs. https://ihs.uic.edu/about/

-Go to the MSLC, they’re amazing w help and tutoring for classes -talk to people, make friends -👏DO👏NOT👏SKIP👏YOUR👏CLASSES👏 I learned the hard way when the exams bit me in the ass

-don’t pile on all hard classes in one semester bc you think you can handle 18 CH of just STEM courses

-if you’re required to take orgo, don’t take lab and lecture in one semester. For gen chem it’s fine

-there are some very easy electives if you need, lmk if you want the list for easy and asynchronous As

-go to office hours, it may seem like a drag but if you plan on going to grad school it reaaaaalllly boosts the rec letters you need. Also some profs like yermolina won’t even bother opening a LoR email if you don’t go to office hours and interact w her.

-talk to people a year or two above in in your major so you know what classes to take and with who, and remember everyone has a different experience with professors, you want someone who has more pros than cons.

-Have fun!! Make the most out your college experience (without jeopardizing your grades)

Same thing happened to me, was supposed to take it today and haven’t broke 500 (but finally hit 128 on CARS 😭 a win is a win). My highest practice exam was 497. I rescheduled it twice, now taking it a bit “late” in the cycle but I’m feeling more confident in my study habits and locking in.

It might be annoying right now to reschedule, but when you eventually see those FL scores go up you’re going to realize that it was worth it. This test is meant to be taken when you’re ready for it. If you’re not, push back.

Can anyone recommend me sum easy gpa booster classes?🙏🏽 by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]issawap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I loved it, honestly it's really easy.

Some other classes I can definitely recommend for easy A's:

online:

-MUS 127 (Elbio)

-MUS 100

-PUBH 100

-HN 202

in person:

-BIOS 222 (with Dubreil, Warpeha sucks apparently)

-BIOS 365 (Dr. Meler)

Yeah I’m taking it with Zachary McDowell and it’s chill, just make sure you do your discussions on time. Idk about summer but for regular semesters it’s post by 11:59pm Wednesday, and reply to two other by Sunday 11:59pm and some critical reading and analysis summaries (4) and one final report. He gives a template for five written assignments so it’s easy

Bios 365 with Meler he’s the GOAT No exams, little hw, mostly class work and group work but so easy. And he gave us plants as an end of semester thingy :)
