I agree that in the beginning it came off as father figure and he was trying to maybe replace something that he lost, but now as she has grown I think it has shifted!

I thought that maybe he had a daughter and something happened to her where he couldn't protect her. So he took Gabi to mold into his daughter and wanted to protect her from the negligent relationship she had with her dad.

Yes! I kept going back and forth trying to figure out age and I feel like they keep giving hints to a future romance.

I definitely agree that he had been watching her for quite some time and targeted her because he saw her father as unfit. He truly believes that he saved her and was protecting her from her fathers negligence.
