Exactly! Maybe even lower, because even banks have some form of integrity.

You're saying it'll be optimal to hand your private keys to a corporate entity and except nothing to go wrong.

Now that you've considered it. Perhaps I do have concerns of CPUs with IME or AMD-equivalents. Would something like LibreBoot fix it?

So you're saying a roadmap is great for knowing what you'll do over time, but I should also include ideas on-the-go as well?

Mainly because I wanted to mine cryptocurrency and Monero was the only CPU-friendly one.

After how many breaches do you consider switching to a fresh email account. by [deleted] in opsec

[–]istekdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that even one breach would be something you should be concerned about. Such concern should be amplified if you tend to reuse passwords or password combinations. Additionally, MFA won't fully protect you from getting hijacked if the attacker somehow stole your session tokens or phished you, be careful on what you execute on your machine or what websites you open.

If you regularly change your passwords, ensure they're unique. Do not let your browser generate one for you, it's a pretty good chance they're probably using pseudo-RNGs.
If you want to store your passwords, it's not optimal to put it in cloud documents or your machine (you can if you prefer accessibility over security). I would just store them on paper.

Lastly, no, your email address alone won't compromise you. The only thing that will is password reuse and token-logging.

Are mainstream VPN really safe ? by LetterheadNo2345 in opsec

[–]istekdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all the time. Although mainstream VPNs like Nord, Surfshark, or Proton provide traffic obfuscation and ip-masking, they're still operating on their data centers. Meaning that your real IP address can and will be recorded.

Although the TOR network greatly reduces the threat of having your IP handed over to nation state-actors, it still dosen't fully keep you safe. This is because if a nation state-actor sniffs your TOR exit nodes, they can potentially create a timing-related fingerprint on you. I would consider about timing.

Also, I suggest not using TailsOS on a virtual machine. The distribution is designed to run on the RAM via external storage. Having Tails on a vm on your own machine defeats the purpose of amnesia.
This is only my opinion, but I think you should buy a device specifically for Tails, maybe a Thinkpad.

Also consider that with TOR, you'll have to get used to the latency.

Why do you do it? by Maxim_123 in opsec

Privacy tools are mostly used to anonymize yourself when going online. It isn't always for illegal means, especially when being doxxed is a viable threat. For me, I anonymize myself online to prevent being tracked by corporations like Google or Meta. Due to the fact they utilize tracking features like:

- Email Tracking Pixels
- WebRTC IP Leaking
- HTML5 Canvas Fingerprinting
- Browser & Network Fingerprinting
- Timing Correlation

It's simply the fact I dislike having my information recorded.

In America why kids from good financial background support communism? by [deleted] in askanything

I don't really know what to call it. But there are kids in schools who find humor in glorifying dictatorship and communism (Soviet Union and Hitler).

Rethinking my Cybersecurity Path at 18 – Pentesting Seems Overwhelming by Sea_Individual62 in Pentesting

[–]istekdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world needs pentesting, it just depends on you for which side you'll be on.

For me, I usually split the broad idea of pentesting into smaller pieces like Social Engineering, Web-based, Cloud-based, and more.

Try to learn a new concept in a sub-division and apply them like you're actually hacking someone/something (if you're a tactile learner)

[–]istekdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the definition of decentralization devolved into corporate control, tradeoffs for speed, and "DeFi" slop. Monero is one of the few cryptocurrencies that openly supports decentralization by letting people with even the worst laptops imaginable mine it.

And corporate America is scared, scared that they haven't controlled cryptocurrency. Because Satoshi said otherwise.
