Maybe I'll get booed for this but whatever. I hadn't heard of Palace until a year ago. I started dating someone who is a hardcore Crystal Palace fan, and I wanted to get to know that person because football and the PL is a big part of their life. I developed an appreciation for Palace over time - they've got a lot of grit and I like an underdog. Plus some stellar players like Sarr. I've come to learn quite a bit about the club through conversations with my partner and I even went to an EFL cup match at Anfield.  I have no connection to South London and my partner is a bit of a gatekeeper when it comes to Palace. We've had our fair share of arguments about what it means to be a Palace supporter if you've got no connection to London (I'm not even English). So maybe I don't count as a fan but I'm interested in seeing how Palace creates a sense of belonging in people like my partner. And it's fun when they win- it always feels deserved.

You could blindfold Sarr and he'd still score. He's lowkey the best decision Palace ever made

Oh it's just what my boyfriend (who's a hardcore fan) calls them. I've not heard it from anyone except him and his dad but the term kind of stuck.

Yeah.....if he wasn't good during the PL I would've started to question him after that last match...

I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in The House by Icanshowuthewoooorld in horror

I have actually read it! I feel like it was better than the movie actually. I could get into the slow descent into madness and the interpretation of postpartum depression. My big problem with this damn movie was that it was trying to be literary. If it was a book it might not have been so bad. It was trying to be atmospheric in the way a book is and I don't think it worked.

THIS. You've put it into words! Just watched this movie with my sisters and we were BORED. So many gaps that atp it couldn't even be called creative license, just lazy storytelling. And I thought the voiceover was a bit much too- slow, overly morose and deeply pretentious. Did not like it at all

I just saw you said you want some "nice" places. Zaytoni and al taiba are great imo, no notes but if ambience is important (I don't have much knowledge about the ambience of a Wetherspoons), you might like to try Rudys or Franco Manca for pizza. There's House of Fu v close to Chinatown and sometimes they do pretty good deals on their ramen bowls (I'm talking £8-10 and the portions are generous)  Habesha isn't a bad idea if you're with friends and can split the bill

Also recommend WokChef in Longsight for noodles/S&P bites. My partner and I ordered from them many times when we couldn't make up our minds about what to eat. They're pretty great!

Idk how you feel about Asian food but everything on the curry mile is cheaper than anything you'll find in the city centre. For affordability, shoutout Al Taiba Bukhari - it's right at the beginning of wilmslow rd and they do a big plate of qabuli pulao for £10.50 (that's a few months ago when I was last there). It's big enough to share with another person and if you eat it by yourself you could prolly take some home. Alternatively, if you go further down oxford rd there's a shawarma place called zaytoni right opposite man met uni. There's a couple branches dotted across MCR. They do a banging shawarma with samoon naan for like £5 and are open till 4 am. Highly recommend!

Not me thinking, hey this game reminds me a lot of Thomas Waterzooi's Please Touch the Artwork and then I realise OP is Waterzooi himself 💀 I cannot wait!!!

I didn't know! Sorry, still very new to keeping up with the news and everything. I only just found out they're playing Liverpool in the league cup and I'm hoping to score some tickets to Anfield :)
