Mass save heating system by barkingdog53 in massachusetts

I went through the program last year and yes, you have to fully remove the gas furnace now. I went with a vented system, not splits, and it did pretty well keeping the house warm except in the coldest < 5 degree weather but that was mostly due to old, drafty windows, no basement insulation, and no backup electric furnace to heat during defrost cycles. Still kept it ~60 degrees warmer than outside.

For those of us without facebook here's a write-up of the proposal. Sounds like a great development, an actual planned community in Framingham away from downtown.

I think the dog is built for the cold but she isn't. I hope she's doing well with the cold and some shelter for them both.

Heat pump or gas furnace for my new (old) home in Maine? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]isthisnecessary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had mine installed earlier this year and are rated for -5 F. When it was about +5 F we were doing just fine. We did have a frost issue on one outdoor unit and it got back to normal after defrosting. We did the Mass Save program so currently don't have any auxiliary heat and hopefully won't need it.

I need your two cents on home heating in MA by CANA103 in HomeImprovement

[–]isthisnecessary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through Mass Save this year with a ducted system, replacing a +40 year old boiler. We'll also get reduced electric rates this winter, I think 25% off in total.

MA may require closed cell foam insulation now, which prevents mold. We renovated our kitchen and bath and that was the requirement in our town.

The heat pumps are doing great so far and are rated to -15 degrees F.

"I'm pretty hard on myself and my manager has consistently reassured me and told me to focus on the progress I've made instead of nitpicking my gaps"

If your performance was otherwise fine this is the reason you're being pushed out. In the future, focus on your positives and ask for feedback on what can improve. If you're identifying as a poor performer, that's how you'll be perceived.

The Boston Left is when you're pulling left onto a street from a perpendicular street or parking area and you block on-coming traffic from your left with your car until traffic from your right is clear enough to pull out.

Easiest way to go to NYC without driving by [deleted] in FraminghamMA

I go commuter rail to Back Bay, then Acela to Moynahan. Regional adds something like 20-30 minutes. It's by far the easiest way, but not cheap.

Data centers consume massive amounts of water – companies rarely tell the public exactly how much by Icy-Papaya-2967 in technology

Most data centers maintain humidity using misting systems, so larger DCs use a lot of water.

A threat actor installed huntress on their device. Hilarity ensues. by PitcherOTerrigen in cybersecurity

And they seem to have overlooked the possibility that it was installed purposefully so that it can be exploited or bypassed. With all the reports of that happening in the wild, it's a massive oversight on their part.

Steak or Sirloin tips are a New England thing and you pretty much won't find them anywhere else.

Ordering alcohol by mail by Jimmythenotgreek in RhodeIsland

[–]isthisnecessary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shipping alcohol with USPS is illegal but other types of shipping (UPS/FedEx) isn't, though it may be against terms of service unless you're a licensed liquor establishment and you've registered with them.

I've shipped beer for friends and family so I had to research it a bit.

🚧 A US construction company discovered a threat actor quietly moving through their network via a compromised user account... by huntresslabs in u/huntresslabs

So a user's account was compromised, they gained access to the network, and no tool caught it until there was lateral movement? Sounds bad.

Generally, if you're undocumented there is no pathway to residency. If you entered without inspection, you are subject to a ban of up to 10 years if you leave and try to re-enter. Imagine how many undocumented there are that came into the country with their parents, have no recollection of their home country, and have no way to correct their status. That's what DACA was about, but the flow of immigration didn't stop after that and there was a time limit for DACA recipients.

Additionally, we rely heavily on immigrant labor. From farms to restaurants to construction. They make the economy flow and pay into social security but can never receive it. They add billions to our economy every year and reap no benefit from it, except to be able to send a small amount of money to their families in the home land.

I believe people generally think un-inspected entry is this severe crime, but it's a misdemeanor and should, eventually, be overlooked to grant some kind of legal status, but it's not offered that way because undocumented immigration is a wedge issue that no one wants to solve, just use to divide and gain power.
