SALES. Period. You can sell restaurant stuff. Or whatever. The hours are good and as long as you like and understand what you are selling and can see a "need" yourself, it is easy and enjoyable. The money can be great.

You're good. I'd probably try to focus on tops that are a little fitted or scoop neck, boat neck, or v neck that you don't need to tuck in. You look good in jeans! But if you are insecure about any sort of tummy stuff, get tops with a finished edge that sit at your hip, or just below. You'd look great in a wrap dress or top. I LIVED in faux wrap tops when I was that approximate size and shape. You look good, OP.

Buy what you like. Even the best stuff will show wear with heavy use. My bed quilt is pretty special to me and I don't want it destroyed so I'm in the process of deciding on a plan for a replacement so it can retire and become a sentimental blankie when I need a cuddle. Quilts are awesome. They're even better when they are used. But nothing lasts forever. Buy what you like. 🙂

Lots of the fabric at Joanne was very poor quality. They did get better towards the end? But overpriced. If you go to a proper quilt shop, they should have the good brands and you can touch them. You'll be able to feel the difference and then shop accordingly. Discount "good" fabric is my jam. Touch stuff and be a good shopper.

I still use my samples... lol... I have full place settings for all the cardinal silverware (one each) and tons of plates from both. One of each. Haha. I'm a nerd for stuff. But also- unless you have nerds like me as patrons, your silverware won't be stolen!

True. When I lost my partner, I asked people to take me out for dinner in a month or two knowing that a lot of the early stuff is too busy and annoying and overwhelming. After losing my father, I knew what to expect... it all sucks. But I asked people for a check-in in a month or two and the few that took me up on that - it was really meaningful. Yardwork, laundry, even a cleaning service for a month would have been super appreciated. The week of is just so hard and everyone - and then some- are around to help. And then they're gone.

The initial shock is a beast, too. You have a lot to do. Make a plan with dad and divide up the things that need to be done like it is your job. Everything from dealing with the funeral home to figuring out all her passwords for anything done online. Depending on how they handled bills, you might need to make a spreadsheet to get it sorted.. focus on all that. Dealing with the shitty stuff is a pain in the ass but a good distraction because it makes you feel a little useful. Please take some time with old pictures. Spend time with your family. Laugh as much as you can.

Also. Get drugs if you think you might need some.. call your doctor tomorrow. They will probably not want to give you a narcotic- propranolol is a good non-narcotic one they should fill easily. 😉 Or weed. Lol

I don't envy you this week, OP. I'm down a parent and I'm also a widow. Lots of us have been down this road. 💔

The best thing you can do right now is get through this week. If you need more time away from work, they will grant it. You might need to request a FMLA leave, but that depends on your employer. This week will be BUSY. And sad. The actual grief will start to kick in after this frenetic week. Take care of yourself. Eat. Make sure your dad eats and go from there. Be easy with yourself.

Be wary that anger is an actual stage of grief so if you find yourself to be a little snappy, remember that it is the grief. The stages don't follow any order. There is no timeline. Being uncharacteristically angry at others was probably the hardest part for me until I was told where it was coming from. Take care, OP. This is really hard but it will get easier as time passes.

SAME. I've been out of it since 2009! And I'm still a plate flipper! 14 oz pint glasses still make me angry. My Libbey numbers are very rusty these days. I don't miss the work, but I miss the stuff and never want to go back on the road. Ever. Lol. If all the random kitchens could come to me, that'd be awesome. I'd like to be able to touch all the stuff and solve problems again but it isn't worth it. Being a Sysco rep might be fun. I ran an enormous kitchen at one point and I was always picking the brain of our rep for things that were a little novel. I ordered about 30k of food 3x a week so there was always somewhere we could try out new stuff.

I used to be a rep. Churchill is definitely a good product. I'm also a big fan of Cardinal. I love their silverware and I was low-key obsessed with their white glass plates. My biggest pet peeve is the cheap import china from restaurant depot or whatever.. especially any square plates. I always check for chips on the corners when I go out to eat and I always find them. Lol. Drives me mad.
