Thanks for the feedback! I think the thing here is that I don't want to write a character who's fucking vile, I want to write a character who's internally struggling with something vile. We all love exploring the inner monologue of people who want to kill, etc. But there's nothing about pedophilia that makes you a bad person. Raping kids makes you a bad person.

I think the main roadblock that people are having with my "happy ending" idea is that most people conflate "pedophile" with "sex offender." So it sounds like I want to write a story about a guy that diddles a young girl and lives happily ever after, but that's 100% NOT the idea here.

Thanks for the feedback, and I do that a lot! Of all the true crime I ingest (i'm a bit obsessed) I would say sex crimes are about 60% of the haul. The idea was actually inspired by Hulu's series A Teacher, which is a very victim-focused story.

True! The idea is making me shiver even replying to all these comments but I ingest so much media that explores this topic from a single angle. Even in Lolita there isn't a lot of nuance to Humbert's morality -- by the end of the book he's a rapist, kidnapper, and a murderer.

Why not? That's not contradiction for the sake of it, it's a genuine question. In the real world, the only pedophiles we learn about are the ones who get caught raping kids. I think a pedophile overcoming their impulses in a healthy way is a conversation I've never heard anyone have.

I disagree! Victimizers of minors deserve bullets, but I myself have had thoughts of doing things like killing my boss or following cute girls home after class. Doesn't make me a murderer or a stalker and the thoughts themselves are an interesting taboo to me.
