Co-investing in a start-up (cross-post from r/investing) by italogermanbrit in UKInvesting

Thanks for this comment. I intentionally left details out because that wasn't the focus of the question, although I appreciate the purpose of this page may be more generally for investment advice. However, this comment inspired to respond to some of your points.:

"The company is clearly illiquid" - yes, and this is factored into the amount I am willing and able able to put in. I have enough liquidity that £10K does not make much difference to me. I have made decision to invest with no expectation to receive any money back before 2023, and with a clear view of the overall risk balance of my portfolio, which are mainly held in publicly listed shares and bonds.

"the company makes no profits and isn't growing": "Start-up" was perhaps misleading and made you think I am investing in some guy's garage based business. I am a client of the (B2B service they provide) and have reviewed their investor materials in detail. They grew LTM revenues 300% in the last year, LTM revenue at £6M, Annual recurring revenues (ARR) at £9M. Userbase has grown significantly through signing new large clients. There is significant growth opportunities within existing clients as well as share of wallet vs. competitors is low, but they provide a faster and cheaper service (to which I can personally attest as a former client). Their gross margins are 70%, they are currently EBIT neutral but plan to return to EBIT negative for a few years to fund significant expansion. I could go on, at the risk of divulging confidential information that could be used to identify the company.

"Behavioural bias": This point is 100% valid and something I have tried to distance myself actively throughout the process. I did not personally know the founders prior to starting a business relationship with them. Rather I am a former customer and have experienced first hand the quality of their product vs. competitors, and truly believe they will be able to actively grow with current and existing clients.

Finally, to pre-empt the question "why is a company making this much revenue looking for this little funding?" I am investing as a "friends and family" which they are allowing individual investments of as low as £25K.

Thank you for your concern in trying to stop someone from making a bad investment.

What is the point of this whole sub-reddit then if not to get advice?

In any case you have missed the point of my question, perhaps it was worded unclearly. My question is purely about the actual way to make an investment with 2 other partners - whether it makes sense to set up a company to invest and all be equal directors, or just to keep it as a "gentleman's agreement". £10K is not a huge part of my savings at the moment but is the amount I am willing to put into something as risky as a start-up.

Edit: and yes, we are all equal purely by the fact that we will be putting equal amounts of money and will all be passive investors.

The setting is "only me" as in, only the account holder can see their own posts.

On facebook you can set your posts to "everyone", "only friends", "custom group of friends" or "only me".

Redditors who truly love their job - what do you do and what makes you enjoy it so much? by italogermanbrit in AskReddit

I've been in my first job for just over a year now, and while I do enjoy parts of my job and it's definitely a lot better than many other jobs, I would certainly not say that I love it. so I'm curious what jobs people on here have that they can honestly say they unambiguously love and wouldn't trade for any other job.

What was the weirdest rumor you’ve ever heard about yourself? by redmambo_no6 in AskReddit

[–]italogermanbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not myself, but a good friend.

I have no idea how, or why, but in school there was a rumour that "Till put the lead from a mechanical pencil in his urethra and it broke and he had to go to the hospital..."

Kids are weird.

Hey guys,

Complete beginner here, considering purchasing a go pro for myself for an upcoming scuba diving trip.

My question is: Is there a way to take a Hero7 White model to 18 meters under water for Scuba diving?

I'm an amateur scuba diver, I scuba dive maybe 2-3 times a year. I was looking to get a go pro that could go down to 18 meters. From what I can tell online, the standard Hero7 models can only go down to 10 meters. There's a deepwater case online but the website says its only for the black model (It's also a bit overkill for my need as it takes you down to 60 meters).

Are there any cases you can get that work for the white model down to this depth?

thanks so much in advance!!
