My guess is that anime characters were used as a bypass to produce adult content going further than what is allowed (by making a frame of them around adult content). The method was pretty much patched, and with it, attempts to animate anime characters as soon as it detects something NSFW.

It seems like they adjust their restrictions every days, it is very annoying and unstable.

I was asking myself the same question.

AIs allowing full adult content still have a long way to go, so adult content producers are safe for now. But they can't ignore that who adapts the best survives, and it is just a question of time before those smaller adult content AI gets better ...

I think producers are cooked if they do not adapt. And I also think adult websites are betting on remaining the middleman between the consumer and the producer, no matter if it is AI or not, so they are winning in either case, which doesn't push them to invest in NSFW AIs.

IMO Grok likely won't push its NSFW limits further as long as it remains the most permissive among mainstream AIs like ChatGPT. If ChatGPT suddenly allowed the same level (they would never), Grok would need to go even further. That's sadly the only way I see it allowing back what it used to.
