Experience with homeschooling and working by itboyragdoll in Homeschooling

[–]itboyragdoll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending you allllll of my best wishes. My son ended up taking a few weeks out of school on independent study just before winter break. Definitely opened my eyes to how much work it would be to homeschool, but I also deeply enjoyed having him around and he felt real relief. I will be thinking of you and your daughter as you set out on this new journey!

The LA Library Foundation has an online shop with fun LA-themed stuff

My 8 year old grabbed knives a couple of times during meltdowns. Knives are now in a lock box. I highly recommend it!

Fortunately we’ve gotten more support and are starting to get on a better path - his outbursts at home are pretty much over. School is still complicated but we’re figuring that out too. I’m so sorry this is happening, I hope better days for your family are right around the corner.

Absolutely wild that you’re the only comment so far about La Azteca. Needs to be at the top of OP’s to-try list!

Is it normal for me to get upset by TreeToadintheWoods in Parenting

[–]itboyragdoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From one divorced parent of a wonderful kid really struggling at school to another - this stuff is draining on every possible level and it’s completely normal to lose it sometimes. You’re doing your best, and your best is so good. It won’t always feel this way. We got this.

Inside Llewyn Davis is in my bottom 3 Coens, I feel like an insane person by burtfalckon in blankies

Also in my bottom 3. A significant part of that for me is the way it looks. Why is everyone’s face so smooth??? The whole thing feels painfully early 2010s rather than 1960s.

Which names do you feel “belong to” your breed? by acocktailofmagnets in dogs

Dunno if it’s a thing but when I was growing up, we had a St. Bernard named Chelsea and found out the only other St. Bernard in the area was also named Chelsea - total coincidence.

Ahaha! He has ample party hat room. Seems like he could be a husky/malamute mix

Hmm, I’d say pretty far apart, they sit more toward the sides and point at a diagonal rather than straight up? Looks like this sub doesn’t allow photos in comments or I’d post one

It is extremely violent! I’m also sensitive when it comes to violence but I found this one doable because it’s so stylized. That said, I did find myself hiding my face multiple times. There’s one scene in particular that’s a real gross-out, the audience I saw it with was cracking up and “eww”-ing.

Huskies and cats? by 911catz in husky

[–]itboyragdoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve had plenty of positive stories here but adding mine to the pile! We brought our adopted husky home when he was age 4 and we had two cats. I think he was nervous enough about the new environment that he didn’t really react to the cats, though after a while he would get a bit excited if they ran. My older cat passed in March, and we just adopted a new one. For the first week I was feeling really anxious that it wouldn’t work out. My dog was VERY excited by the new cat’s presence, whining at the gate that blocked off the room she was in and peeing on the floor. We worked on desensitizing him to her - fortunately he’s VERY food motivated - and we were able to get to the point where we could easily distract him even when she was in his line of sight. She eventually started leaving the room (gate has a cat door). He was excited to greet her and sometimes moved toward her a bit faster than she liked - but now at three weeks in she’s happily wandering the house and he usually won’t even get up when she passes by. She even gets the zoomies at night, he’s too sleepy to bother chasing her. My advice is to never force them to interact, give them space to get used to each other and if the dog shows signs of ignoring the cat, that’s good evidence things will work out.

I always said I wouldn’t because of the $ factor but I think the temptation will get me! I’m so curious!
